My mother's 1995 Taurus GL Wagon with the 3.8 has been giving heck lately. It has about 60,000 miles on the clock. No idea about ABS, or the lack thereof.
It has been having an issue with battery drain, reportedly. My sister was pulling into the driveway when the brake pedal hit the floor. She parked it without incident. It hasn't been moved since. The car has been sitting for a little over a year under covered storage.
I've decided to try to get this car going again. Budget means I've scrapped my plan of bringing a tow dolly with me to pick it up. Instead, I want to assess the car and get it started again. My tools are three hours away from the car, so I need to form a plan of action, and that's where I could use some advice.
I have work tomorrow, and doubt I can buy parts while I'm in town for turkey day.
My goals for today are to check the amount of brake fluid in the system, top it up and look for leaks. I also mean to jump the car and see if it will start and warm up. Someone has bought for my mother a switching battery terminal, and I may install that.
In a week or two, I'll either go there and repair or replace the offending part(s) or tow it home and do the work here.
I'm packing some fresh DOT3 and the Mityvac, a set of box-end wrenches, sockets, extensions, jack, jackstands, and lug wrench.
Any suggestions?
