A definitely interesting build
Wasn’t there a guy on here building something similar to that on the Builds forum? Runs in my mind he had a bat $hit crazy ex and had to do it all when she wasn’t around. But it’s been a few years since I saw him post.
The guy knows a lot. But he knows very little about the weight of a Cadillac 500. Not even half the weight he said. Most people don’t realize it but a 472/500 Cadillac is quite a bit lighter than a big block Chevrolet. Don’t believe me? Paging Curtis.

If I recall right the 500 is about 25 pounds heavier and than a sbc 350. As stated in a hot rod article way back in like 86.
I've got a spare 472 in the garage. Next time I have the scales at home, I'll drop it on and see what it says.

Using Toyota stuff? I seem to remember that. Health scares as well.
Umm, yeah. There are some problems with numbers here, especially those representing weight and power output. That said, it is arguably one of the most awesome hotrods ever!
A Caddy 472/500 with an aluminum intake weighs within a few hairs of an SBC with an iron intake. This of course depends on the SBC casting as they have varying amounts of iron in them, but the official weighing I remember being done by MTS back in the 90s was comparing an all-iron truck 350 from an 80s van to a later, low-compression Caddy 500 with an aluminum Edelbrock intake and the number was 27 lbs. The caddy with aluminum intake was 27 lbs heavier than the Chevy 350 with an iron intake. They were weighed with essential things like alternator, exhaust manifolds, dizzy, and water pump, but not complete engines with air pumps, A/C compressors, and power steering pumps. They were trying to compare the engines as they would sit in a vehicle and run without extra options.
Of course, it's still a big iron V8, so not lightweight by any means weighing in around 600 lbs from pan to carb with water pump, but the myth that Cadillac 472/500 engines are super-heavy beasts is just not correct. They are one of the lightest GM V8 iron engines you can find. A Caddy 500 is (for instance) is about 150 lbs lighter than a Pontiac 326-455, 100 lbs lighter than a BBC, and about the same as a Buick 430-455.
