I heard about this circle track series years ago called U-car. I just read the description for the cars and mods allowed. It seems like about the cheapest way to get into circle track racing.
Does anyone have any info or inside notes about this stuff?
Here's the skimpy wikipedia entry on it.
PDF of the rules.

Sounds like the Non-ACR Neon Olympics to me.
"Racer33" here on the board does some pretty cool FWD roundy-round stuff on the ultra-cheap. We saw him run at one of the paved ovals a few years ago and it was really cool. I'd like to get into it some day.

Most short tracks have a similar version of this. Go to your local track some weekend, and you'll see this.
A '95 SL1 would rock the crap out of a race like that. Keep your Neons
93 mustang Lx 2.3L? unless they have the 2L rule...

Yeah, an early SL or SC would work great...actually don't use an SC, cuz I want one for H Stock...or ST....

Most tracks that ive seen its FWD only... though some tracks have full size v8 classes also. These classes have gotten huge the past couple years, as people can no longer afford the other cars, but still want to race.
i used to drive a minisprint car on dirt, and the track i ran had a class like this, an old automatic neon dominated the compition...
Ok, $500 claim, single cam, 3 valve Max. What would be a good canidate?
American made(Big 2.5) only. What about canadian or mexican built models? How about Geos and Mitsu/mopar rebadges, Plymoth Talon?

1gen ford probe if it has to be 'murican. if not, the same chassis but easier to find would be a 88-92 (same gen) 626. responsive handling (read: doesn't plow when you push it) and 110 stock hp from 2.2L there was a guy on the mx6 boards a while back and he and his dad raced probes in that class at his local track. iirc, he had a 4cyl turbo, and his dad ran a vulcan 3.0 v6 powered.
$500 claim rule would be kinda tough when you have to put a cage and fuel cell into it, though.
