in the end, we need to ask our selves one question, "how long till these things are challenge eligable?"

And it's easier to drive, if that's your thing. From everything I've read, I get the impression that any shmoe could hop in the Nissan and pull off respectable lap times.

I'm willing to bet that I'd pull faster laps in the GT-R than in the ZR1. The ZR1 looks like a handful at the limit where the GTR looks very composed. For me, I think it would be a case of driving the ZR1 at 7-8/10 and the GTR at 9/10.

Then again, finding the limits of a ZR1 might be outside of my abilities. I can only hope to be alone on a track w/ both cars and a few hours.

LS9 is aluminum. Horray, I feel SMRT again!

You know, I thought that all the LS engines were all aluminum, but I was going based on what P71 had said above.

LS9 is aluminum and semi-dry sump. Same as the LS7.

I can't even imagine working on the GT-R.

Actually, it probably is. There's a good chance you're staring at more processing power right now, than what is on those shuttles.

Oops, I got the LS9 wrong. It is an aluminum block, but it has iron sleeves in the cylinders. Standard LSx motors are all-aluminum and most truck variants are iron-block. The LS9 also uses the dry-sump but with increased oil capacity and a bunch of other changes.

Read all about the LS9 here:

I'm glad the ZR-1 pwned the GTR. The GTR is the poster boy of horrendously overpriced, unbelievable heavy, unneccessarily complicated nanny cars and the ZR-1 is a much more sensibly designed car. Hopefully this will slap some sense into companies that are headed for the high-tech-gadget deep end.

In the GT-Rs favor, it is just marginally slower, despite the HP and Weight difference. That has to count for something... back to grassroots, what can we do with Miata's for that kind of money?

What can't you do with Miatas for that kind of money?

Should be easy to find a nice NB, drop it off at FM and have them swap in the nicest LSx they can find, put in suspension that can handle anything, have a full cage installed, hard top, several sets of wheels and tires, and probably a trailer and tow vehicle for everything.

Also I would like to add that HOLY CRAP the ZR-1 is as agile as a go kart! It's amazing that a 3300+lb car can corner like that! Pretty remarkable for an American car too

Probably the stat I find most impressive is that 60-0 braking times have finally hit 2-digits. 96 feet to go from 60-0 is fargin amazing. For reference, a basketball court is 94 feet.

You probably the firs person to ever get away with saying that a ZR1 is sensibe. But in reference to the story, true true.

I think much of the issue is from GTR fan boiz thinking/hopping/knowing their car was supposed to be this all crushing entity. Its a great car, but there are others that equal or better to it.

And as for the cost difference, what about Nissan dealers massively marking it up?

Yet another reason to move to Canada and get a real (R32-4) Skyline.

Well, 1000HP is doable in an LSx...
