That's actually a beautiful example of a guy having the skill, tenacity and stubbornness to say "HA! I can build that myself for a fraction of the cost the factory is asking!".
That guy should go into the "Grass Roots Hall of Fame".

It must get awefully boring up there!
Why did he block up the opening in the basement. I would have paved the ramp and installed an insulated garage door.
I bet there was some fire code issues but easily doable
I posted the same question over at Jalopnik. Drainage would have been an issue too, but not insurmountable.
I would have totally gone for the extra "garage" space and made the opening permanent, paved the new "drive way" and put up some retaining walls.

What are the chances of a full interview/story on this guy in an upcoming GRM mag? Seems like this is a dream build for most of us.
