Is this a thing that people do to XJs!? Do want!
My friend has a 4bt powered xj. I don't know if he is being overly cautious but to deal with the extra torque and weight of the motor he front halved the Cherokee frame with box turbing and ran leaf springs to get the high lift he needed to clear the pan.
A diesel Cherokee would be cool.
The Renault diesel wasnt enough for you guys? Its the perfect vehicle. The classic XJ package with a French heart.

I read through a detailed thread on doing a 4BT 80's 4Runner once, maybe on pirate4x4? It was a HUGE project in a body on frame truck, so I can't imagine what it would be like in a unibody. I'm guessing your friend's cut-no-corners approach was the way to go.
SlickDizzy: I've seen exactly one OM617 4Runner on the 'net, don't know if it's a more common swap for Jeeps.

Get out of my head!

I want to put an OM617 in a YJ or TJ. It's the perfect diesel. The 4BT requires larger running gear and reinforced unibody due to the weight and torques. The 4BT will rattle your wife's ovaries out. The OM617 will last just as long and is a simple swap.
Joey48442 texted me the link and I'm thinking about shooting the guy an e-mail but my wife would NOT be happy. So, my only question is this. If I do get it, when my wife serves the divorce papers on me, how much of the financial burden of child support/alimony is Joey responsible for? In a court of law. How much of that is off-set by the fact that I'd be living in his front closet?

I won't owe anything! You will be nicely compensated with an unpaid position as Head Automotive Project Manager of the Joey48442 Household.

Also, funny you mention vibrating ovaries, doc. My wife and I were driving up Runyon lake road tonight and she said the jeep was bouncing so bad she thought her uterus might drop out!

Runyon Lake Road rattled MY uterus out! That's gotta be the worse paved road in MI.
Says the tach needs to be wired, but these diesels hit a rev limit at 4200 RPM and can maintain it under load, so I wouldn't bother assuming that was included in the transfer. This engine tends to leak as it ages, too.
As far as the headliner drooping, I'd just cut it out I think,
