Wondering who here has experience with UMP filter canisters and can talk to power loss. I've read some reports from pirate4x4 of people experiencing pretty significant horse power loss with these, but I wonder if anyone can speak to whether this is always the case with this style spin filter, or if it may be a sizing issue.
This will be for a 3.0L V6, which I've calculated needs approximately 275CFM and is roughly 200hp that races in extremely dusty/silty conditions consistent with baja/desert racing.
That looks a lot like the filter canister on an H1.

I wondered why it looked familiar. Certainly does.
May be a sizing issue, there are other vortex filters that use an array of many tiny vortex elements instead of a single big one. Vortex pre-filters do generally make a big difference to filter life. You might also want to look into filters with a pre-filter bag available like AEM's.
I have one in my Class 11, so the engine is much smaller than what you have. When we were doing some on road testing we ran with it connected and disconnected there really didn't seem to be much of a difference - but we weren't focusing on that. I think for the C11 we could go with a similar, but smaller (lighter), unit and still be good.
