I had to add foam to my forester to make the seat comfortable. Its nice now but it was agony when I first got it. Surprisingly the base model with no lower back controls that I test drove for a good long time was great.

The GT seats aren't great. The trick is to snag a set out of a GTS/AllTrac.

Would you believe the seats in the Abarth are more comfy (to me) than the cushy seat in the 01 2.5RS Subarust?
The Jensen's seats suck, but as Basil says you gotta suffer for art. 
The worst 'mainstream' seats I've ever experienced were in a 1998 Camry rental car. I sent an employee to Jax, she came back complaining that the seats were awful. I had to go about ten days later and rented a similar car, I had to agree. TERRIBLE after a half hour or so, the 5 hours was agony.

I couldn't get a feel for the 1st gen SL1 seats as they where too small and I never fit correctly, to put things nicely. It felt as if the biggest that could fit comfortably would be 5'8" and a men's large. The second gen fit myself nicely and was basic but not bad.

I've played with the lumbar control quite a lot, with poor results. I guess I'll need to pick up some foam as well.
The stock seats on my BMW k1200s and k1300s were bad. I found out this the hard way when I hopped the plane to pick up then k1200s in Dallas, then rode straight through almost 700 miles home. I have more hate for that seat than any other seat ever.

While that is true, automakers have a size human that they do make seats (and actually all manufactureres have a standard). I found out a while ago that I am exactly that size, which is why it surprises me so much when I come across something which is truely uncomfortable and doesn't fit. I am crash test dummy size

This thread is a follow up to my other one, mostly. A grassroots solution to uncomfortable seats is to use a factory or aftermarket seat that is comfortable to an individual, and use that in each car they own.

This is my plan going forward, especially considering I don't think I'll buy another car with airbags in the seats.
