The Protege has developed a physical banging noise. It usually happens on right hand curves. My first thought was the exhaust, but the rubber hangers are all in great shape, there's plenty of clearance along the entire length of the exhaust system, and moving it aggressively by hand doesn't produce any noise. I can't see anything under the car that might be causing this noise.

Any ideas?

My second thought. The fronts are new, and all four are connected.

The banging sounds bass-ey, like there's some mass behind it.

Did you check the exhaust system for lateral AND vertical movement. Had similar problem on my Maxima where one of the exhaust clamp was slightly loose. It wouldn't let the exhaust move laterally, but it would let it bang on the floor over bumps.

Second guess would be suspension related. Did you also check the suspension bushings? Top strut hat? Ball-joint?
