Being driven by someone who I doubt had any clue about what they were driving.
Weren't those standard with the LS1? (Standard as that's what they had as stock, not a MANUEL [Hola!] transmission...)

5.3 LS, not LS1. But yeah, stock LS motor in most of them. I think some did have the 4.2 Atlas I6 though.
I was stuck behind a suspiciously stock-looking dually Suburban this morning and wondered if it was a custom job or just a rare option.
Actually a 6.0L LS2 churning out 390hp and a real torsion center differential, as opposed to the select-a-trac fwd based trailblazer nonsense. Allowing it to go 0-60 in 5.5sec it also came with upgraded brakes and suspension versus the trailblazer and I believe is rated to tow 7,000lb if not more.

Definitely custom. They made 3/4 ton Suburbans from the factory, but never a 1 ton dually.

Wait a second... The Aero version was basically a TBSS? I never realized that.
In reply to rslifkin:
With a awd system that was 100% rwd until loss of traction, upgraded brakes and suspension.
There's a guy in town at the tire shop with a red TBSS. When he leaves the parking lot it sounds like a track car. It backfires after every shift and sounds like a sequential transmission. Wtf is that about? Did they have seq trans?
In reply to rslifkin:
Yes, that's exactly what it is...an AWD TBSS with Saab styling.
.
In reply to Trackmouse:
If you consider a 4L70E automatic to be 'sequential', then yes. Maybe it also has a shift kit and/or tune.

Every one I have ever worked on was a 4.2l.
And I get caught out EVERY TIME by the SAABy ignition lock in the center console. My brain says Chevy truck not SAAB when I crawl in.

The all had 4L60s, which are modern sequential transmissions
Even more amusing is that you could get an isuzu ascender with either the lm4 or lh6.......now that would be a sleeper.
Friend of mine just bought one with the 4.2. He said the dealer he bought it from had one with the 6.0, but he didn't want to take the gas mileage penalty. Rookie move, but he's not a car guy. No idea what it is.
There are some out there with the 6.0l Motors I actually looked at one at a used car dealer. They wanted top $$$$ for it but it was probably worth it.

I haven't given up finding one of these yet. The last decent looking one I saw was fs in Arizona.
In reply to spitfirebill:
No kidding. If it were me, I would've gone for the 6.0, no question about it.
I flipped one last year, guy had no idea what it was; I did. It was brutal fast and it sold in four days. Yay me!
It reminded me of a four wheel drive version of my E55, the power on tap in a pretty dang nice interior.
Saw a Daytona Coupe this morning rumbling through town. Blue, white stripes, lake pipes, 427. Probably a kit car, there is a big car show this weekend.
Sounded good though.
Hotlinked pic, couldn't get my phone out fast enough.
2 things...
There are like 8 total Daytona coupes, so probably a kit. Still sexy as hell...
B) what the help is on the roof of the saabrolet?

yeah that's an aero - a true unicorn. we have a 5.3i(that now has a 4.8)
the aero is a trailblazer SS but not ugly/more gadgets/saab tuned suspension. the 9-7x is a way tighter handling ride than any of the other variants, gm actually let the saab engineers do some meaningful things.
