3M supper 77. This is what it's for. It even shows Shag carpeting getting installed in a windowless van as it's instructions for use.
A while back I reupholstered my headliner, door cards, center console and more in my MKIV Jetta. Did a bunch of research and finally settled on the Super 77. It worked, but wasn't as tough as I thought. I was talking to my friends dad, who was in the business, and he said at his shop he uses contact cement out of a HVLP gun. Went back and tried it with that and it worked great! Just give it a little so that it becomes tacky and doesn't soak through whatever you are trying to attach. Probably cheaper than buying a bunch of the Super 77 bottles too.
In reply to nocones:
Super 90 is MOAR better, For reference I reattached the convertible bow fabric to the roof on the Fiat with it, held up for 2 years and counting...
I used the super 77 to reattach the vinyl on the doors of my mustang about 4 months ago. It's already peeling off.
It's probably operator error, but I was really, really careful. It was my first attempt however.
A friend of mine that does car upholstory and taught me some when we did my Opel GT uses Weldwood Contact Cement. Holding up very well in everything he's done the last few years, including my Opel. He's expermented with other stuff but found that this is about the best an average home upholsterer can get without paying $$ and getting bulk quantities that the full-time pros use. At your local Lowes or HD.
