and this is just another reason I refuse to live inside town limits and with HOA's. berkeley em. I pay the taxes to live there, not them so STFU and find something productive to do and leave everyone else alone.
Hahaha he should find out who's on the HOA's board and drive this car past their houses every day on the way home, giving them a little smile and wave as he passes
The proper response is
"Thank you for your concern, but I assure you the Ford truck in my driveway is for personal use only."
So someone chose to buy into a mandated conformity (HOA) neighborhood, and is putting up a fight with the HOA because they didn't expect anybody to have a problem with an upside-down-Camaro car kept in public view? That seems kind of equivalent to people who chose to buy a house next to a major racetrack, and then put up a fight with the racetrack because they didn't expect it to be noisy.
I love all the freedom that my neighbours south of the border enjoy.
My neighbourhood is full of constructions guys, 4-wheelers, fabricators, hotrodders and motorcycle nuts.
Try that crap here and you'll probably get a punch in the nose.

if it's registered, tagged, and insured, there should be nothing they can do about it.
Make lemonade. Put a for sale sign on it and ask stupid money for it. Maybe the HOA and neighbors will take up a collection to get it out of the neighborhood. If one of the close neighbors is selling their home I'd bet they'd make a nice contribution. HOA could put the money they're willing to spend on lawyers toward the collection fund.

Oh we have more freedom than that. We have neighborhoods with all those things you just mentioned plus fireworks and handguns going off.
This is just referencing neighborhoods with homeowner's associations set up for them which they knew going in to. The vast majority of our neighborhoods don't have these.

This car was staying at this persons house temporarily until the next race. It was not intended to be a long time resident of the house.
HOAs seem like the neighbourhoods where all the hall monitors from school ended up living.
"Teacher! You forgot to give us homework!"

It's generally retired curmudgeons or busybody housewives (or househusbands) that need a purpose that run the butthead HOAs.
HOAs take on the persona of the persons running them. It's hit or miss.
Reminders like this help when I get tempted to move off the farm.
This is why I'm glad Redfin has a filter for HOAs. "Nope."
I'm pretty sure it would also remove all the pleasure and satisfaction from trying to get my yard looking nice if it was a matter of enforcement.
same here, no HOAs in my neighborhood. I am sure they would have had a field day with my boat in the driveway
We have a voluntary HOC, or Home Owners Club. We pay $35 a year in dues to keep the entrances mowed and trimmed. That's all it does.
About once a year, someone will get on the neighborhood FB page and whine about starting a HOA because some house didn't mow their grass this week or that house left their trashcan out for 3 days.
The laughter and derision is pretty deafening as the entire neighborhood mercilessly mocks the person that suggested it. It's great fun.

This^
This is exactly they way it -should- function.

Temporary vs long term is beside the point.
The fact it is a registered, street legal car leaves the HOA without a leg to stand on. Temporary or not.
He could have it there year round, and should after this, perfectly within the rules until those whiny twits change them into "only approved econoboxes allowed in driveways". At which point, someone needs to bleach 4 letter words into the rule writers lawn.

At least yours is in the driveway. A guy up the street from me has a large offshore fishing boat taking up almost his entire front yard. It's kind of spectacular...Although, admittedly, I'm also glad it's not actually next door to me.
Actually, a note to the HOA stating the car is in the homeowner's possession temporarily would go a long way towards peace in the valley.
In reply to Jerry From LA :
You mean rather than trying to give the HOA that you signed up for the proverbial (or literal) finger?...Yeah, probably
I live in an HOA neighborhood, but have never had an issue with my stage rally car parked out front, my trailer next to the house, and a variety of project cars in the driveway or garage. That said, I try to keep it respectful and not look trashy and do the things that I could probably get away with. It's not about the HOA per se, it's about respecting your neighbors.
That said, my HOA is non-intrusive and really just takes care of common area trees and grass and actual county zoning violations (rare). Two of my immediate neighbors are on it, and the worst I've ever gotten was "your trash cans were out on the street all week"....which, admittedly was an oversight on my part and DID look trashy....
As someone said earlier, HOAs are all about the personalities of the people on the board or in the neighborhood who want to report stuff and make a big deal. Luckily my hood is not like that.
In reply to Driven5 :
If you say so.
In my mind, it makes a world of difference about a potential short or long term eyesore, no matter if the eyesore is legit or not....
I really did not think that this would cause this commotion. As a car person, I don't see what the big deal is. And if the home-owner wanted to be difficult:
If it is going to be raced again local to where it is, invite the neighbors to watch. What I am sure of is that I wouldn't want to cheese off the locals if I lived there. That could last for YEARS.
