Hey guys I finally looked at the heads that came with my 350 I bought a few months back as I'm getting ready to do the build. Well I checked out the casting numbers and it turns out the heads are 041X heads .
A little bit of research shows these heads are fairly sought after by the street stock guys and the like because they are fairly good heads for being factory and not aftermarket.
So the question is are they worth enough to make it worth selling them off and grabbing a different set of heads?
try to sell them and you'll find out.
Thought this thread was going to be about something else.
or you could keep them and make a better build out of them than you thought you were going to
Or you could buy new heads because stock SBC heads from almost as much to more to build than old stock ones. I offered to sell the set of camel hump heads i have for $5 and even then no one wanted them.
In reply to mad_machine:
Yeah that is kind of the direction I am leaning to especially considering the latest decision on what to build for the second Olds (see off topic forum). Maybe Olds 1 will end up with a LS1 or something.

I sold some double-hump SBC heads about 13 years ago because I needed the cash. They were gasket-plug, and recently refreshed at a reputable shop, and I got $200 for the pair. Now they're probably worth more as scrap. No one wants those heads any more.
I'm glad I don't still have them.
The availability of cheap used vortecs have kinda kicked their value squarely in the sack.
If I were local, I'd give you a little bit of something for them (and I mean, like $50...but I'm cheap).
Put them on CL and see if you can find someone who wants them. Put the money you get from them toward a set of vortecs, maybe?
I've not used vortecs, but I'm sure that's the high-percentage answer.

apparently the 041 heads are mostly wanted by guys that need them to race in specific classes and some of the vintage race cars.
I think I'm just going to use them considering they are already in the budget and it would cost more for a set of vortecs. Figure I paid $200 for the engine including the heads might as well use them instead of adding even more to the budget, well unless I found a screaming deal on some vortecs.
Used vortecs are under $100 now as far as I know. They are at the junkyard all the time, and i payed $125 for a V6 alfa long block, so i cant imagine heads are over $100.
