I just took the old cat out of my Trooper, and now I'm wondering what I should do with it. It works great and isn't very rusty, and I know it's worth something. Should I eBay it, scrap it, what?

AFAIK Its illegal per federal law to sell them for anything but scrap. If on ebay, cut the flanges off and list it under scrap metal. Ebay seems to get the most money, expect a lot less, like $5/lb from the local scrapper.
I've sold quite a bit of them on eBay, if you do make sure you highlight the fact it's from an import, but do not list what it came off of. Also make sure you post a picture of it on a good digital scale. There's a few websites that offer pretty decient money for them also, one I've had good luck with is http://www.sellyourcatsdirect.com/Converter_Catalog.html
If it's a factory cat, you should be able to do pretty well with a scrapper. Surprisingly well. I think we get something like $50-75 for them, although we probably deal with higher volumes than most.
Aftermarket cats, not so much.
Hmm, okay. I'll probably do the sellyourcatsdirect website, it seemed quick and easy.
And yes, it is a factory cat.
i ebayed the one from my sonoma for $129
i might try that sell your cats website though as it's guaranteed $240 for the two from my suburban parts truck.
I have ebayed them as "intermediate pipes" with out issue. I got very good $$$ for a set off a mitsubishi 3000 twin turbo that were otherwise going to be tossed in the dumpster.
I know that there are, or at least were (in the not too distant past), companies that sold reconditioned oem cats, so I'm not so sure about how that law aganst selling used cats plays out in the real world. I have also purchased a used oem cat to replace a failed low quality aftermarket cat, and it worked just fine.
I got $85 for an NA miata cat when I sold mine to sellyourcatsdirect. It was a simple process and I'd definitely work with them again in the future.
With all the meth heads around Daytona, there should be some pretty good scrap yards. You should get around $100 bucks for it, but new Florida law says you need to bring a copy of your car title to prove it isn't stolen. I know it sounds silly, but that's what the scrap yard will need

They don't really, it's some kind of weird law they made because all the cat theft in Florida. I doubt the scrap yard really cares if it's stolen or not, I guess it's just something to cover their ass if there is a question from law enforcement
CMC is now requiring a replacement receipt for em, seeing as how your in n fl, thought I would pass that along.
In Texas there are similar laws. I cant necessarily catch the thief for the actual theft, but what I can do is catch them on one of the "gotchas" in the laws.
Part of selling the scrap is that you have to swear that it is your scrap to own and sell and that it does not belong to anyone else. If you swear on paper that the cat came off a certain vehicle, I look at that vehicle, and there is the stock exhaust with no replacement then you have obviously lied. In Texas at least that is an A misdemeanor for the first offense and a felony thereafter.

They wont... Its to prevent theft though... If you are using the same car title to bring in multiple cats then you must be stealing them... Now they have a record of who you are and such and can track you down...
If you aren't stealing cats, you'll only have 1 cat to scrap every few years (maybe), per car title you have...
