I am looking at getting a newish Mustang. The GT is nice, but I'm leaning towards the 3.7L V6 simply because I can wring out the engine without getting into as much trouble. I've driven an 98 ACR Neon for the last 15 years. Very fun car but I'm looking for something with a little more Grand Touring feel and a little quicker. I don't want another racing suspension for the street but it can't be limp either.
What options should I look for in a used or new V6 Mustang?

A V8 with a stick !!!!
That was my first thought
there was a thread here recently where it was decided almost unanimously that the only problem with the V6 that they put in the Mustang is that the V8 is available.

I've driven a 2011 GT with the track pack option and a 2013 GT. Power is definitely there, but I can't even part throttle around town without blasting by everyone. For what I want to do with the car I think the V6 is the better option.
I agree with the Recaro seats suggestion.
I like the spoiler delete option.
I've driven a V6 on the track. It was awesome. If you can't go fast with 300 horsepower, then 400 horsepower isn't going to help you either.
6 speed and a real spare tyre are nice.
Manual trans. Nice seats. Good sounding radio and speakers.

Did it have the track pack option or was it a base model?
I'm curious if I should hold out for the track pack option or just add the parts through the aftermarket.
A manual is a must! :-)
Recently brought home a 2011 V6, 6 speed manual, see avatar, with the Pony pkg which really only adds some nice cosmetic touches: sport 18" wheels, leather seats some additional badging, fog lights and a reverse activated camera with readout in the rear view mirror to help out with the blind spots.
I find I can rarely get out of 2nd driving locally, but once at the highways the 305hp is very responsive. Also, has a throaty exhaust note on the duals, granted not the rumble on a V8, but satisfying. Handles nimbly.
Hoping to upgrade air intake and suspension along the way. Maybe a few other upgrades.

As someone who owns a 2013 V-6 Performance Pack (the name for the V-6 Track Pack), I'd say that depends on your future plans. If you don't plan on modding it anytime soon and don't mind the fuel economy/acceleration tradeoff that comes with the 3.31 gearing, then I say go for it. If you plan on doing a lot of suspension modding right off the bat, you may want to start with a base model with 3.31 gearing only. Before anything else, give a V-6PP a test drive before deciding whether or not to buy it. It's pretty good stock and a good indicator of what some simple suspension mods and gearing can do to wake the chassis up. I did not like the stock dampers (too soft and floaty) and the stock Panhard rod (an upgraded PHB or Watt's link does wonders on the rear axle), but given the amount of goodies Ford throws in with the track pack, I don't regret buying one to start with.

I own a 13 V6 Performance Pack as well. I'll echo what motomad1 and RexSeven said.
Any chance you want to sell that ACR and live near SC?
What color ACR? Coupe/Sedan?
I am about so sell mine and replace with C5 Z06. Sad I'll never get a chance to use the ITBs, Moroso Pan, etc. I've had sitting around.
I have a 99 ACR platinum gray coupe up for grabs if anyone is interested.
