So my Director at work has a Scat Pack Challenger 485hp of goodness. He to tonque in cheek commented about guys with V6 car installing loud exhausts on the car saying perhaps it's morally wrong.
Now we both agree that the latest breed of muscle cars with 300hp V6s are still quick but my only comment was "why advertise that you were too broke or cheap to get the V8"
We also noticed that the folks that do this also seem to rabbit off lights and weave in and out of traffic.
So perhaps not morally wrong but may signal one as a feminine hygiene product? Maybe it's just the Honda car guy fart can muffler equivalent for American car guys?
disclaimer if said exhaust systems are freeing up a good bit of horsepower then fair enough.
I prefer the sound of a nice V-6 to a V-8.
I prefer the sound of an inline 6 to a v6 or v8. But yes, I think your boss was right. People who buy the "lessor" versions always seem to have something to prove.
Yes. This is why putting an exhaust on a 3 Series (not M3), a N/A MR2, a WRX, Civic Si, etc. is morally wrong.
Just wondering why your awesome Director, who is obviously way cooler than those douches who couldn't afford the V8, cares about what said douches do with their crappy V6's.
No one cares about V6 driving losers. V8 drivers rule and are obviously the Alpha Males. I would never be caught dead hanging out with a V6 owner
Hellcat owners: "What kind of loser puts an exhaust on a Scat Pack?" *lifts pinky and sips tea*
It is sort of akin to puttIng an roarty exhaust on my Outback.
I don't know about it being morally wrong but who is to say that an enthusiast cannot enjoy the sound of their V6? There is a difference between the 16 year old that cuts the exhaust off of their 2001 Mustang V6 and the guy who puts a nice stainless Corsa exhaust on his 2017 Camaro V6 1LE.
I have no problem with aftermarket exhaust systems on V6 versions of V8 cars as long as the goal is to sound nice and not just loud. I'd rather have an enthusiast put a nice exhaust on his V6 than have some E36 M3head cut the exhaust off of his V8 Silverado.
Does he know what "morally" means?

Ill be over here in my fartcan civic having fun, what are those old guys bitching about? Dunno, cant hear em.
The feminine products are you judgy shiny people.
For shame.
What the berkeley did I just read?
I fully support their choice to enjoy their car how they want.
Unless they're weaving in and out of traffic. That level of disregard for their fellow humans isn't limited to V6 owners. It also affects boy-racers, Mustang owners, BMW drivers, muscle car mullet dudes, Squids* and other people who don't realize the street isn't a dang race track.
*Squids driving motorcycles badly is generally a self-correcting issue
I don't see a problem here. My V6 car has only 160 horsepower and yet the engine sound makes me grin like an idiot. Granted, there's no V8 version of it, but still...
Let people like what they like. (Unless they like coal-rolling brodozers...berkeley those shiny happy people )
As someone who once cut the resonators off his Lumina to better hear the 3.8 rumble I fully support rorty V6 noises. Straight thru to dual mufflers sounded pretty good.
No regrets.

OK guys I did say tongue in cheek......................we like to poke fun at car snobbery.
For the record I race a 80whp Datsun with a cherry bomb muffler so a V6 Challenger with loud mufflers would be a huge evolutionary step for me.
Most "fart can" Civics are faster than my Datsun could ever hope to be, so far be it for me to judge. I actually smile when I see them passing more expensive cars at track days.
My favorite exhaust note is a Yamaha two stroke twin...........ring ding ding dinginnnnnnnnng. So my tastes are highly suspect.
@prodarwin that made me laugh...........the bosses car is bone stock but I will forewarn him lest he commit such a sin.
I also harass the boss by telling him he could have saved $25,000 and got an R1 which would be a lot faster than a car and sounds better as well.

There are some guys who race Lemons in the south with a 3.8 SN95. It is truly the best sounding V6 car I've ever heard. Their trick: stock SN95 V8 exhaust.
I always wonder how those Xfinity drivers can look at themselves in the mirror. Well actually they couldn't bear the shame so they went out and bought V8's but cheap low compression versions.
I always think of a meme like this when a V8 car guy try's to put down other car guys.
I question the morals of this guy and his lowly V6. I wouldn't be surprised if the exhaust is modified!

I mean if you have morals it's probably wrong. Me? Berk it, pass the sawzall.
Arguments based on morality are akin to those on faith. Everyone's definition is different so keep your berkeleying mouth shut because your lambo driving sermon preaching sex is only for procreating high horse is no taller than your neon driving agnostic prostitute neighbor's
that's what i would tell him anyway.
I don't know about morals, but in 2019, Challenger guys seem to have overtaken Mustang/Camaro guys as the biggest offenders of "V6 compensation."
Did y'all know about the new SXT Hellcat?
I have no problem with people putting exhaust on the lesser engined version, but at the same time, it seems like every V6 Camaro I see with an exhaust is just straight piped. In other words, obnoxiously loud and sounds like E36 M3.
How are the V8 guys supposed to feel superior if the V6 cars make cool noises too? Unacceptable.
Signed, guy with a stock exhaust because it means more laps at Road Atlanta on Sunday morning.

V6 Mustang owners and VQ owners are guilty of crappy straight pipe exhausts ugh. lol

How is this any different than the fart cans of the 90s and 00s?
I say do what you want, if it sounds good to you, great. I also wish you luck on resale with that awesome drone
