You may have, yes:
"V8 car with V6; installing loud exhaust seems morally wrong?"
"So my Director at work has a Scat Pack Challenger 485hp of goodness... but my only comment was "why advertise that you were too broke or cheap to get the V8"
"So perhaps not morally wrong but may signal one as a feminine hygiene product?"
"... People who buy the "lessor" versions always seem to have something to prove."
I was referring to the very genesis of this thread ie: questioning if someone who buys a V6 instead of the V8 version is proof of one being too broke or cheap and possibly a douche or at least "have something to prove".
Patientzero I posted this and should have made it clear we were being tongue in check / a bit satirical on our discussion of are V6 lesser versions with loud exhausts morally wrong. Clearly some folks thought I (as well as my boss) were actually serious about thinking less of folks.
My fault, I should have been less subtle. I thought for sure when I said if the loud pipes made the car faster it was OK. Perhaps I should have said if it makes the car faster then it's no longer morally wrong.
Just because I say going to the Olive Garden for "Italian" food is morally wrong doesn't mean I'm serious or that it's morally wrong (don't lie to yourself it's morally wrong)

By the way, I WAS NOT condemning anything you wrote.

There's been several threads both recently and in the past that in my opinion have been far too judgmental. There's actually been car guys angry or judgmental toward those of us that daily drive full size 4x4's for instance.
Some of us feel the V8 owner ridiculing V6 owners was a little pretentious to say the least.
In reply to ebonyandivory :
I'm probably guilty of that, on the 4x4 count. It's an eye-opener that you've mentioned it here. I don't like that V8 snobbery at all, and I shouldn't be like that about 4x4s or anything else. There's probably some SUVHate.com forum where it's more appropriate.
The V8 snobbery is particularly grating, in that it often comes (not here, but generally) from people driving, say, '99 Kia Rios or nothing at all.
There is another variety of snobbery where people look down on muscle cars, pony cars, etc., and this is often coming from guys with a Schwinn and a Porsche or Ferarri poster on their wall.
In reply to b13990 :
I've been in a state of disbelief in all honesty at some of the vehicle snobbery which often comes off more like being a b-word in my opinion. And the irony of a site with vehicles from Clifford to the Tunatruck to track-ready Yugo's and Saturns with posters ripping other readers choice of vehicles is almost incomprehensible.
Let me add, this thread isn't on that level. I'm just sensitive to this type of thing.

Language has a hard time realizing ideas and intent. Written language more so. And the topic is an opinion (fasicious, sensational,or humorous in intent) and everyone has one. So the conversation could go awry. My 2cents

...and often does
In reply to BarryNorman :
This.
Since the second sentence mentions 'tongue in cheek' I kind of figured that set the tone.
In reply to BarryNorman :
I can't argue with your sentiments but in case you missed it, there's more negativity toward pickup and suv drivers on this site than I've seen on all other sites I visit combined. And trust me, it's not a matter up for interpretation, it's quite blatant.
Well, It's one pound for a five minute argument, but only eight pounds for a course of ten.

Ah, that thread cracked me up. I've got lots of ideas around inclusion vs. tribalism and how it affects a bunch of things, from cars to flounders.
Heck, I took my Forester to a local car meet last week. I'd been doing a bit of off-road driving, so was muddy. The guy I parked next to freaked out and moved his car. He was a wash and wax type, which isn't my thing, but to each their own. I thought it was hilarious.
honestly this thread reminded me of the last time I hung out with any BMW guys. A twenty something showed up with a brand new M6. The car had a thousand miles on it. He had cut the mufflers off to let the V10 sing. Not only did he drive like a complete asshat, but I was beginning to think my ears were going to bleed when I got stuck behind him. Thankfully, being an asshat, he floored it and took off down the highway at probably more than twice the posted limit, I could still hear him, but it wasn't an assault on my ears anymore

Strangely (?) Foresters do not trigger my anti-SUV sentiments. Hadn't really thought about it in detail, but my observation is that most people who drive them made a pretty reasonable decision.
I drive an obnoxiously loud 4 cylinder ranger and it makes me smile so I never judge anyone for there choices. My inline 6 car sounds like a tractor and it's full length exhaust with a glass pack
We drove my obnoxiously loud v6 miata to lunch today. It made kids at the Mexican joint point and shout race car.
berkeleying WINNING. Thats why i have a loud v6. And wfo....
Thank goodness no one here has brought up putting a Chevy 350 in your old Ford hot rod; those guys are just amoral. Of course it could be worse, they could put a Nissan V6 with a loud exhaust in it...................Neanderthals!!
Hopefully no Datsun guys will read this, they are notorious for doing really wrong things to cars.
@ The OP
You boss is a condescending asshat.
You agreeing that a V6 makes you a class b citizen that Is financially lacking is either brilliant in that you are sucking up to your boss or equally as condescending if you actually think this.

LS swaps (and T-56 swaps) done into just about anything do turn my stomach a little bit.
I get it, though. For many people, it is nice to have these things without having a Camaro.

And this is exactly what I'm referring to. You actually typed "a reasonable decision"? Reasonable decision? You are admittedly anti-SUV but you'll allow someone to drive a Forester because in your world, it's reasonable? But what, a Tahoe is NOT reasonable.
I'm simply trying to wrap my head around a fellow automotive enthusiast concerning him/herself with whether a stranger made a "reasonable decision" in his/her choice of vehicle. I just don't get it.
Please correct me if I'm out of line, I'm just trying to interpret your thought process.
