Picked up a 944 with engine problems today. Thinking of fitting a Chevy V8 or similar engine. Please somebody point me in the right direction. Low starting point so possible 2010 Challenge candidate.

AngryCorvair built one for the Challenge and recently sold it.

Buddy of mine gets glazed eyes talking about putting the audi V8 in one. Says it'd be an easy swap and would improve weight balance cuz it's such a short engine...

I know a local guy that is engineering his own VR6 swap into a 944.

I thought Angry bought it already mostly swapped?

Anyway, looks like the basics have been covered as the Porsche Hybrids site has a pretty good Wiki setup discussing the major pieces.

If you're working on a 924 or looking into more, um, esoteric swaps, check out the Engine Swaps section on http://www.924board.org

The VR6 swap seems really neat, 944hybrids.com is my home away from home (though havent been on there in awhile cause of other projects..) im like 75% through an LS swap.

But its the last 10% that takes 90% of the time ;)

true. crash and frankenstang did the swap for the '04 challenge, blew the engine at the '05 challenge, then let the car sit until my coworker bought it for the '07 challenge. he let it sit for a year before i commandeered it and swapped a fresh 350 for the broken one.

there's really not much to it if doing it for the challenge. mounts, adapter between torque tube and bellhousing, headers. mine was carb'd but i think i'd do an LT1 next time.
