So I have a T56 and a gen 1 Sbc 350 short block. After my motor is built should I stuff it in a S10 or a 3rd gen fbody? They seem to weigh about the same and the turd gen already has a v8 in it.. so that saves money. I need the cheapest platform that can handle the trans an engine combo for a fun street car. Learn me grm
It seems like the S10 should be cheaper. Cheap F-body's seem like they're an easy grand or so unless you want something that is simply destroyed. The right S10 should be half that or less. There's also more room for things like a good exhaust system in the S10.
What do you want to do with the vehicle?
why not a T10 Blazer/ Tahoe?
I vote for a V10 S8 over a V8 S10. :)

How much cutting does it take to wedge a classic Chevy smallblock and a T56 into an E30?
Of the two choices the OP listed I would go S10. It is the beginning of a cool pro-touring project.
S10...bring it to the challenge.
I'm thinking S10 as well, I would love to go LS in somthing like my miata. But this has to be cheap as to fly under swmbo's radar. And the purpose of the truck is a fun street sweeper that I will daily on occasion. I just need some big american V8 in my life
I bought a set of wheels of a guy with a V8 S-10. He bought it used for like $1000 and used it for running parts, towing some small stuff, daily driving...a little bit of everything. It was a real sleeper and he said it was one of the favorite vehicles he had. Seems like a great all-rounder and with the right look, will keep the cops from noticing. I like the clean, simple look.
That looks exactly like my 5spd 4.3 s10 I had when I was a teenager.
the F body will be the better one for that engine and trans.
lower center of gravity, better suspension, sleeker aero..
Can someone point me to a V8 S10 bible? Every swap kit I've seen seems to always be for a 2.8 v6 truck, I thought the 4.3 trucks where a bolt in but can't find anything that supports that
It is almost a bolt in with a 4.3 truck.. you just gotta make motor mount adapter plates, and i used Chevelle motor mounts to compensate for the thickness of the adapter when i put a TBI 350 into an 88 S10 4x4. Other than the exhaust manifolds, everything from the 4.3 bolted right up and i used a flex fan instead of the stock clutch fan because there was only about a half inch between the water pump shaft and radiator.
The mounts are farther back on the 4.3 block compared to an SBC, but a 4.3 trans will bolt up, which doesn't matter to you because T56. My theory is that the swap kits started before the 4.3 did. I had to get 2.8 mounts to work with the swap mounts I got for the Bravada. I think I'd just look for a manual trans truck to start with, and not worry too much about what engine it had in it. I believe most rear sump car oil pans should clear just fine in a 2wd S10. (I spent too much money on a custom pan for my goofy AWD project). I don't know when the side mount gas tank started (may have been on all of the pickups), but on a 2wd with a rear mount tank you should have plenty of room to do whatever exhaust you want once you get the driver side header around the steering shaft. Not sure what fuel system you have in mind but I've heard rumors of SBC mechanical fuel pumps fouling with the frame rail on the passenger side.

More than enough information here. Good signal to noise ratio, too. I haven't checked it in a while, though, so I can't verify the traffic.
I haven't been on that forum in almost 10 years.

I sold my project a couple years ago, so I haven't been there, either.
