Just remember never underestimate a van!
I very much like the general idea of that van, but among fast vans it is really not that fast. AWD makes it look good at the track though!
Speaking of k-cars, here's a van with the same kind of motor that was in that Reliant.

The timeslip showed there wasn't a dial-in time, so it was heads up, and yes, looks like they won that by holeshot. Still pretty amusing. Those iron LSx motors can take stupid amounts of boost. Hot Rod recently took a stock LSx truck motor, filed the ring gaps a bit larger, threw a pair of ChinaChargers on it, and turned up the boost to see if they could blow it up. Ended up giving up after around 27 psi of boost and 1,200 horsepower...
Slowest R/T of the century, as has already been pointed about, but amusing nonetheless. That van just dug in and MOVED, though. Not a lot of drama and wheelspin.

A 1/2 ton shortbox 4x4 chevy 5.3L twin turbo truck won drag week a couple years ago
My roommate in college had a '99 Sierra with a vortec supercharger and intercooler. We were loaded to the gills coming back from a camping trip and a guy in a 1st gen Camaro with a couple of girls gave us the nod at a stop light and we took them. At the next stop light he said it was a slant six; 'yeah thats not what your badges say...' I remember the girls laughing at him.
It was lots of fun until the rest of the drivetrain grenaded.
I can only add this. One time I was driving a rental van down to deleware for a show. Emergancy delivery and the work van was already down there, so I was driving a 15 passenger van.
Had a mustang dogging me on Rt1 and we wound up leaving the tollbooth side by side. I stayed with him till 85mph.. then the rental van's speed limiter kicked in and it was like somebody threw an anchor out the back.
If you watch that video, you can definatly see the gearing and aero of the vette making up for the holeshot

The killer was that it was a 4.8 not even a 5.3 like they thought they had purchased.

If by gearing and aero you mean power and power, then i agree. The zr1 could start out in 2nd and short shift at 4k and still outrun that van. What he cant do is give him a huge head start. hehe.

you forgot the ported heads and aftermarket intake manifold, plus about a thousand other things they "just had laying around" or didn't bother to mention. still impressive, tho..
