Hi all, I got the Reduced Engine Power, Service Active Handling message accompanied by these codes P1120, P1221and C1278 on my '03 Vette C5 Z06. From my research I learned that these codes were usually related to bad Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). The sensor is cheap enough so I went ahead and order one. After changing the TPS I still got the same codes and that's when I noticed that the wiring loom going into the TPS had moved closer to one of the pulleys and as the result a couple of the wires inside the wiring loom were exposed and although not completely severed they were scraped, generally not in a good shape. I uploaded a couple of pics hopefully they came through.

Short of replacing the whole wiring loom can I just cut the 2 wires that were in bad shape and use connector/crimp to reconnect them to make sure that currents are going through okay? Or were the codes not related to this wiring at all and I've misdiagnosed it completely? Knowing me that's completely possible lol. Once this is taken care of I will make sure to pull the wiring a little bit to make sure that it stays away from the pulley. Thanks all.

You should be able to splice it. I spliced in a new connector for the throttle body on my Suburban (8 wires) and over a year later no problems.

That's what I thought too..did you use special connector since it'd get hot under the hood?

I suggest solder and heat shrink.  If you have not done that before, you-toobe up some how-to's and practice on some scrap first.

Because space is really limited it'd be hard to solder it. In any case, I guess I am in the right direction in thinking that the damaged wire might have caused the codes right? The TPS is new so it can't be the TPS.

A simple uninsulated barrel crimp and some environmental heat shrink would work (the heatshrink has a gel on the inside).  i've found these to give a pretty solid crimp as far as "cheap crimpers" go:

Who knows?  These things are code throwing whores.  I’m really glad you can easily reset them from the DIC and not need a separate tool.
