Anyone painted over old paint say a valve cover with this stuff? Tried to strip an SVT valve cover down to bare aluminum this weekend and failed miserably. It would take at least 8 hours to get all the old paint off. No access to a sand or soda blaster and I've heard not to do that to a VC anyway.

Any input? I have one that I've spent a couple of hours removing all the grime off that is almost clean. I'm about to say forget it and just be happy I have a clean VC.

I have panted the VHT paint over primer so I don't see why you couldn't paint over that old paint. I would guess that it's powder coated and that's why you're not having much success removing it. It takes some special paint remover to get powder coat paint off. Hell sometimes I've even had problems getting it off with my sand blaster.

The biggest problem I had was with it not wrinkling well. The solution was to put it someplace warm while it dried. More heat= more wrinkles.

Can you just soak it in a tub of paint remover?

I used the aerosol stuff that didn't work well at all. What's an alternative?

The key to the wrinkle paint is getting warm, AKA bake that thing after you paint it.

I've used the paint plenty and know how to get it to set up. It's just always been on bare aluminum valve covers and not over old paint.
