My little sister ran her Pontiac vibe out of oil. I'm thinking we may need to swap in a new motor. What other toyotas came with this engine? The corolla did, correct? Did the prism? Also, think we may get away with a new set of main bearings? Help!

Give us more datails.
Motor frozen???? Rapping???? (no not the music but the two sound the same to me)
Don't overlook the Matrix... but you should specify which engine it was, in which Vibe. For example, current-generation Vibes share one of their engine choices with the Camry.
Sorry, it's a first year vibe, base car 2 wheel drive, not gt. 1zz I think. Rapping a bit, not frozen. I will know tommorow where the noise is coming from.

Should be a 1zzfe. Maybe with VVT or VVT-i. You have to know, because they aren't directly interchangeable. No to just new bearings. Shop the JDM importers. The last one I bought was about 3 years ago and was 1 large. They came in MR-S', 'Rollas, Matrix, Vibes, Celis. Running it out of oil is the sure way to kill it. That's why we had to swap that one out 3 years ago.
Thanks Hess. I don't think it's vvti, wasn't that the 180 or 190 hp gt engine?

Car Part dot com Aside from being able to shop for an engine and seeing what the going rate is, this site also acts as a Hollander interchange and by looking at the donor listings you can pretty much figure out everything that will swap around.

better link that works
That is a nice site. Bookmarked it - thanks.
The only flaw with car-part.com is that if there is an A-B-C interchange for a part and you have an A and B and C will work it WILL NOT interchange them for you.
It gives you a direct interchange listing only.
I've seen it swap out some B and C's. Like the V6 for a 99 Camry. It came up with one from the Lexus ES300, I think. That one was also a "no oil" failure. Oil change shop left the plug out or something.
