Built for a penny-pinching time trial series based at NCM Motorsports Park, the Ford Probe of Cody Willet and Stephen Lee has progressed over the years into a fast, but still frugal, competition platform. Their Probe regularly outruns far more expensive and exotic machinery (which, when you’re talking about a Ford Probe is almost everything, but still…). Take an inside …

gotta love the sound of the KL! well done.
Sounds fantastic! I've always loved those Probes -- probably just nostalgia since they were new when I was in high school.
The coolest guy at my job got a brand new black Probe GT in 1995. LUCKY! Of course, he was like 30 and still bagging groceries at Kroger, but at the time I thought he must be doing pretty well for himself.

I can certify the car is a pile.
Wu-Tang!
Wu Tang ain't nothin to berk with
A lot of stories about racing Probes seem to start with "I got one because it was cheap, and was surprised to find it was faster and handled better than I thought."
I love Probes. I really hope to find a good cheap running manual version in the near future, to turn into a track rat.
So you couldn't get them to wear their helmets for that interview? That crappy old POS Ford was definitely the best looking thing in the video.
Fun piece of trivia. For a time, the 17" take off RE-71s on Cold Lotion came off my Miata.
Hey! It's me and my E36 M3box!
Big thanks to GRM for the sweet video and the interest in our rolling meme.
For anyone interested, here is video with 3 hot laps including my personal best time at NCM.
So totally grassroots and awesome.
Very cool to see, I remember a few of these in SCCA Improved Touring back in the day, loud and buzzy. One even ended up on its roof at Nelson Ledges. Searching for cheap challenge Mazdas netted me the same MX6 chassis, which might be the better of the two?!

Nice! Around a minute in was a sketchy moment! Sounded like you scraped the curb hard there.
BTW if you ever replace your takeoffs with better takeoffs, I'll take your takeoff takeoffs. I need to subtract some understeer from my car.
In reply to slowbird :
Yeah, I touched the inside curb at turn 5 and nearly shat my pants!
Unfortunately, we don't really have take offs from this car. We run them to the cords
In reply to Spoolpigeon :
That's fair, although I meant like if you ever go from used coilovers to...slightly less-used coilovers, or something.
In reply to slowbird :
We'll actually be replacing the coilovers soon, so if you're interested in some blown Tokico Illuminas with Ground Control sleeves and eBay top hats.......
we have another set of Tokicos in a lesser state of blown-ness as well.

Sounds like the perfect suspension for my second attempt at the $2000 Challenge How much you want for 'em?
Great video! Seem like two cool guys as well!
Also, the shifter looks fairly crisp, unlike mine. Did you replace the bushings in the shifter linkage? I want to get the ones from King6fab but I haven't committed to it yet.
In reply to slowbird :
It looks better than it really is. Still an improvement over stock stuff. It's an eBay civic shifter modified to fit in the car, and using brass bushings instead of urethane ones.

Awww yiss Cold Lotion in the houseee
I have one I'm working on, both of our cars are pretty similarly modded and we are both going to be running the same Fortune Auto coilover setup most likely
Interesting enough both my son and I watched the videos and realized that the roll cage looked very familiar. We have the twin to Stephen's and Cody's 96 Probe GT - Purple paint (AKA Wild Orchid) except ours is a 94 GT. The guys honored us by copying our cage after seeing our website - www.elliottracingatlantic.com. I have been able to converse with Cody via Messenger and we have had some great conversations re our 2 Probes. From what I understand Probe GT's in this paint color considered rather rare . I have had 3 Probe GT's- 93 and a 97 both leased plus our 94 which has been with us since 97. Loved my Probes and was disappointed they were no longer available when it was time for a new car.
