Japanese Nostalgic Car has definitely convinced me that I need an some vintage Japanese goodness in my life. Probably wagonish...but man, those 70's Celicas are sweet. Anyway, the JNC classifieds are certainly good, but I want more, naturally. Are there any other corners of the Wide Wide World of Web where these things congregate?

Honestly, the places I see the most vintage japanese cars are the local pick and pull junkyards. I have seen several early celicas, an RX2, an RX4 wagon, a datsun 1200, a non rusty 2 door 510, several 510 wagons, and lots of other stuff in just the past year.

Found this one on craigslist by typing in wagon.

Anywhere where rust hides in shame.

I have seen TWO 76' Mazda cosmo's for sale in the last two months in the Philly region though. I've never seen one running down the road, only in pictures.

Craigslist is surprisingly good. Also check marque-specific clubs. There's a few RX2, RX3, RX4, REPU, and Cosmos on RX7Club and Rotary Car Club for sale at any given time. I imagine the same can be said for Celica clubs, etc.

Someplace where they don't put salt on the roads...I haven't seen a 1970s Japanese anything on the road around here for 20 years. They all rusted away.

I have a 74 REPU for sale that I have not received one offer on. Also I just picked up a 78 Datsun 510 two door hatchback that I could be swayed to sell right now. I have found a different JNC that I want instead, and the Datsun would have to leave along with the REPU.

I don't want to sell the REPU,but it doesn't suit my needs anymore with two young kids.

There are almost no JNC's around here in New England, but I get them trucked in from the south like TX(510),and GA(REPU). My RX-7 is a MA car,but you would think it was from the south,or west by its condition. Good luck,I think the 70's/80's Japanese cars are the best. Not technologically, but style wise I wouldn't rather have any other type of car.

Hrm.

One of the few times I'm glad to live in California. I drive a '77 Celica Liftback (for $700) that I picked up at the cost of not getting a '73 RX-4 (for $500), and I can find JNCs on craigslist without looking all that hard.

If you really want, on one of the forums I'm on, someone is selling a pretty nice '70s Corolla Wagon for $2k, I can get you the link.

One place they aren't is in the Northeast. Road salt turned them into dust decades ago.

Another vote for craigslist, but look in Southern cities. Search by model instead of by brand, and keep your upper $ cap low (I use $2K). I'd also reccommend searching "by owner".

I actually found a running/driving/passed emissions 2nd gen Prelude with clear title (I had one when new, and got nostalgic) for about $1100, but somebody beat me to it, since we're moving and I have to spend the money on that

They haven't caught on with a cult following in our area (Missouri) like they seem to have out east and west. Both of mine, "E7"-bodied Corollas ('82 and '83), have significant rust, too. None of it seems like structural, crippling type rust. Just the kind of rust that's never going to really be fixed.

If I was set on having a "nice" one, I'd search in rust-free zones and plan a trip or pay for shipping (I hate it, but living in the rust belt leaves us with only those options). This really goes for anything, though...not just Japanese Nostalgic stuff.

I could be talked out of my '83 Corolla 4 door, but it doesn't sound like it's what you're looking for so much.

Hell, I'd sell mine, but no one will be able to find any parts for it. If it were as nice as yours I'd be able to get rid of it a lot easier.
