A rather ironic thing happened here recently. Viper driver in early morning hours runs out of talent and hits the wall several times after losing control. The skidmarks show at least 3 360's before coming to a rest. Driver gets out of Viper and is standing at his totaled car talking on his cell when a Mustang comes along and hits the Viper driver. Kills him! I hate to laugh at the loss of life but....

Now that Vipers are going away, they have just come out with the most bad ass version yet, track only. Only 50 will be built and 25 are all ready sold.

What does the previous post really have to do with Vipers.

uhh, Viper driver runs out of talent street racing in early morning hours on rural interstate There may be other better uses of a Viper but this seems to be typical.

saw one in town this morning.. Nice car, the exhaust note is a little odd, but such a nice car. Maybe I'll get a used one some day.

But they are in the same price range as a 308 Ferrari........ Ohhh boy.

I consider it a real shame that they're dropping the Viper.

The Viper was the vehicle that showed that Chysler was pulling back out of the K-car era, and could make an exciting vehicle again. To relinquish it feels to me like a return to just making K-cars.

Of course, my question is, is it better to drop the Viper entirely, or would it be better to make a more "entry level" V8 viper that was more on par with a base-model Corvette? I don't see the 6.1L or 6.4L from the SRT-8s being a motor that would really "sully" the chassis, and I'm sure they could knock a nice chunk of change right off the pricetag by going to a parts-bin motor.

Indeed. When I let my subscription lapse, I wrote to them to explain why. I said:

AW has too many articles on SUVs, bloated luxury barges and hybrids, with a definite lack of information about the sort of fun, inexpensive sports cars that amateur motor sports participants want to hear about. Your magazine has too many "lifestyle" stories that are thinly veiled commercials for watches, ties, shoes, golf bags and the like. My lifestyle doesn't involve those things.

its to get rid of all those SRT-10 engines that are now sitting in their warehouse, even the big Dodge trucks don't come with the V-10s anymore

When I got my last issue of AW I wonder if the title shouldn't be Automatic Watches.

The problem with Vipers has always been that the Corvette is a better car, nearly as fast and half the price.

Checked the price of a Carbon or ZR-1 lately? Not cheaper or faster.

As we saw at the 2000 rolex 24 when the corvette nearly won.

Base C6 = 48,900 Z06 = 74,000 Base Viper = 85,000

Both of the Vettes are much more useful cars and the ZO6 is faster than the base viper.

I think GT2 cars sort of render my price point moot.

Every time I see old footage of the better times of being a car and race fan, I wonder to my self "How could this happen?"

Then I come on here to see the first thing mentioned on a Cheap 10 cyl American made proper machine, and cheap exotic, is a complaint on the interior.

And I think "Oh, thats how"

To a point, but the Vipers were suprisingly close to the production car compared to the C5Rs.

And I just like to poke fun at the Corvettes.

Why? Their owners are so well known for fine taste and restraint.
