So yeah. About to go on a road trip in my friends car and this needs to be fixed beforehand. Is there a fuse I can pull? Looking for the quick fix for now, the road is calling.

I would at least check the oil level before pulling anything.

He has ordered an overdrive bypass unit.

Plan now is to take a different car.

Auto or Manual? Either way it's probably the wiring at the solenoid deteriorating. Crawl underneath with some electrical tape and you will either be able to rig it or it'll crumble to dust. Problem solved regardless.

Lame. Anyone who can solder and/or replace the completely external solenoid can fix this in about ten minutes. On my first automatic brick it was actually quicker to fix the wires than to install the block off plate for the bypass.

The OD switch on the manual shift lever is suspect on these cars. Easy fix. If it isn't leaking fluid, then the problem is in the controls.
