So we are debating a replacement for our daily driver SUV which is a fully loaded 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 4.7. Most likely we are going smaller but staying in the SUV family because of our weekends upstate and the 75lb drooling Boxer we have. I don't like the crop of wagon/SUV's from Subaru these days and we already tested them. I'd love more of a wagon (A4, etc) but I think that has been vetoed. Of the 2 above, I prefer the XC60. Any personal experience. If it helps, it would probably be preowned and we would be keeping it for a long time.
Also in consideration but not as comparable:
Wrangler Sahara 4 door
New Toyota 4Runner
no personal experience, but I think the XC60's are very nice from a design standpoint. My wife and I have eyeballed them in the showroom a few times.

I like the look and size of the xc60. I have had 2 4-door wranglers and like them alot. If you are loading a dog in and out of the back you need a hardtop. The soft top you have to unzip the window to get the dog in. have fun with your search.

The XC70 or V70 swallow more cargo.and it's easier to load stuff on the rooves. Just sayin'.
The Volvo twins are probably going to have more cargo and interior room. The Tiguan is one of the few suv's I like/would drive. Plus it has a three pedal option and can be ordered stripped down. The downsides are no tdi option (yet), so so gas mileage and can get really pricey. Maybe i'll take the plunge on one down the road when they come down in price.

The wife has a awd Tiguan. I have no complaints about it. It moves pretty well and gets good mpg. It feels faster than it should, the 2.0t has a pretty flat torque curve.
Sorry, don't know anything about the Volvo
