Not sure if it I brilliant as they never really show a new VW in the add and instead are advertising a finance plan.
Or if it is a condescending bit of desperation. Nothing to see here. Lets all be happy eat cake and life is good.
If I was VW I would have started an add campaign that addressed the error of there ways and what not. How ever with all the legal stuff still up I the air they are probably limited to what they can say.
GM did it with the bailout and I think it was an honest attempt to at least be politically correct and I can see the value in that.
It's an old Schoolhouse Rock song. I recognized it immediately.
That particular rendition makes want to throw brick through thier F#*+#ing front window..........who is that band? The Ludes? Thorazine? Soul Suckers? School House Schlock? I once dreamt that Sheena Easton covered Oingo Boingo's "Only A Lad" it was frightening or so I thought until I heard this song.........clearly it was recorded down at Dysfunction Junction.

What am I missing? Just another car add for zero interest purchase?
On the Velocity channel over the holiday weekend it seemed like that ran that ad every single commercial break. It was driving me crazy! Super annoying! I would't buy a VW now, even if I wanted one, which I don't. Make sense?

It worked well for Mitsubishi! Marketing cars to the kind of people who look at financing charges as a main selling point, that is.

It got to the point that I was surfing away from Velocity every time it came on and did not come back to Velocity. The Mythbusters marathon usually would be where i would go. Kerry Byron and her two boy toys is still better than making zero your hero.

This is one of those times I feel good about my choice to not have cable TV in the house. I have no idea what commercial you are talking about as it does not seem to air on any of my 9 channels.
Is it this song? I can't find the ad.

At some point- in the late 90's?-there was a compilation album of School House Rock songs done by alternative bands from the time.
I think it's the LemonHead's version of My Hero Zero that's playing on the ad. The original is much simpler.

The compilation album was done in 1996 by a bunch of current artists. If you grew up on the songs, it's really a neat album. The track list is:
1. Schoolhouse Rocky - Bob Dorough and Friends
2. I'm Just a Bill - Deluxx Folk Implosion
3. Three Is a Magic Number - Blind Melon
4. Conjunction Junction - Better Than Ezra
5. Electricity, Electricity! - Goodness
6. No More Kings - Pavement
7. The Shot Heard 'Round the World - Ween
8. My Hero, Zero - The Lemonheads (with Melissa Auf der Maur and Gibby Haynes)
9. The Energy Blues - Biz Markie
10. Little Twelvetoes - Chavez
11. Verb: That's What's Happening - Moby
12. Interplanet Janet - Man or Astro-man?
13. Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, Get Your Adverbs Here - Buffalo Tom
14. Unpack Your Adjectives - Daniel Johnston
15. The Tale of Mr. Morton - Skee-Lo
