So while messing around with the Scirocco, we found out the jacking rails are bent all to hell and back.

Also the floor has a crack in it.

So how is the best way to one fix the crack (just weld it up)? And what is the best way to support it with jack stands and jack it up?

Also anyone know a source for the cheapest possible carpet kit for the car?

My S13 has a thick piece of steel welded to the frame. It can be used as a lift point. It was put there after a trash truck hit it.

For the front jjack points on any mkI VW I like to use the seem where the body panel meets the pan. It's two thick prices of sheet metal that are the most rigid body part there with exception of the rear mounting point for the a-arm. I use a chunk of 2x4 to prevent marring or paint damage. For the rear I usually jack under the center of the rear beam.

The floor boards up front are often destroyed due to mishandling around these points. Sadly it isn't hard to hurt them being so flimsy from the factory.

This has annoyed me enough that I almost welded n jack plates in the front when we were restoring it. I was afraid some rule weenie would heckle me with the rule book at the autox ( which of course assumes I would be fast enough to get protested).

Jack from the front on the chassis horns coming forward where the control arms mount.

Those cracks look like undercoat/paint. I would peel away and check for the most likely rust underneath.

As also mentioned use a 1 or 2 x 4 if lifting near the jacking points up front.

VWs have a built in Jack point. If you look at the first picture, just inside of the pinch weld is a round jack point which is reinforced to handle the weight of the car. The last thing you want to do on a mk1 is to jack it up on the pinch weld.

I agree, this is the point I use if I can't get the jack under far enough to jack on the "horns" that support the front lower control arms. It helps if you have a roll cage in the ca as the footing plates on my car go right over this spot.

A simple jacking plate can be made by getting either a steel angle 1 X 1 X .120 and rivet it to the pinch weld with one edge pointed down or a square steel tube 1 X 1 X .120 and rivet it to the floor along the pinch weld. This requires taking the seats and carpet out to get to the floor so you can drill the holes and insert the rivets from the inside of the car as well as through the pitch weld flange. Class legal, most likely not.

That is kinda what I am thinking about doing. I mean I doubt I will get protested locally for that (espicially considering this car was running FSP without an interior before we got it) and it isn't like we are going to be going to nationals with this car.
