I've read or heard somewhere that on a Mercedes-Benz the oil pressure gauge should hit the high peg almost as soon as the engine starts, and if it doesn't, well...

Have a look at the IP shot here: the engine's running, but the gauge is only at about 2/3. Otherwise it looks like a really nice car; does one even investigate a car like this or do you think the engine's hosed?

Thanks!

I really want that. Price does seem a bit steep though.

Just swap in a M117 or better M119.

As I understand it, and at least on a W123, the oil pressure gauge will peg when started cold at idle, but will settle as the engine warms, and again peg under load.

The temp gauge in the pic shows a warm engine, so looks natural to me.

Yep, that's correct, and what our Benzes do.

By the way, watch out for vacuum leaks. I'm still chasing them on mine.

Yes, warm idle pressure should be around 2 bar.

Thanks, fellas.

I'm tempted to give Passat the old heave-ho if this one's any good.

1 BAR is 14.5psi, for the record, pressure displayed is normal, especially if its running on a Xw30 weight oil.

Oh, my. That is a beautiful car.

Guy I know is selling a 300sel because it gets such lousy gas mileage. Swapping in an m117 might not be that big of a deal but swapping either an m113 or m119 will be a huge undertaking. Oil pressure is fine, I think at hot idle something like .8bar is acceptable at least for my car.

Big mercedes sedans aren't worth much money.

Thanks for starting this thread. Now you got me wasting time looking at these cars.

I found this one close by, might go check it out just for kicks.
