Long story short: Wife has a 99 MB E300TD. Great car, but we now have 2 dogs so she wants a Scion xB + Major hailstorm turns her E300 into a golf ball = insurance totals her car. Its great because we have stated value coverage and this is a great way to get the purchase price back out of the car.

Second story: I have a 65 Scout that I was going to convert to diesel. I'm probably better off using some other non-electronic diesel, but I have a perfectly good powerful I-6 staring me in the face that I can scavenge from the benz.

What do I need to keep? I know that there are extensive diagnostics linked to all areas of the car... are they all controlled by one central ECM? Or can I surgically remove the ECM and engine and have it run standalone?
