Was trolling for headers to fit a Ranger-Duratec, saw this:

Check out the pix!

WTF? That can't be right ..... Look at the reverse shot, notice how 1 & 3 and 2 & 4 are joined. Also, note the pinched tubes at the ports, and where the two branches join at the 'collector'.

Man, we're flowin' some hot gas now ...!

Danger to manifold?

I see a cast iron manifold. No pinched tubes anywhere.

Considering the horrible factory headers Ford put on the 2.3 engines in the early Fox body Mustangs and such, this thing is a free flowing work of art.

Well, shucky doo, I pasted the wrong link. Try this one:

WTF. I'm tempted to offer $20, just to have this, THING, to hang on the wall.

I like it that the photo says this might not be the actual item like he's making multiples of them that way on purpose.

looks like a manifold for a V8 Explorer- i've never seen what the manifolds in those look like, but Ford is known for making weird tubular manifolds like that and putting them into millions of cars and trucks..

go to www.rockauto.com and look up a left hand exhaust manifold for a 2000 Explorer with a 5.0 V8. it is cast and doesn't look exactly like that , but it's close..

Nothing wacky there, that's pretty standard stuff these days.

Yes, it does look like a V8 Exploder manifold. I remember when these showed up at my workplace (back on, oh, 1997 or so). I had just read in a trade magazine that Ford was quite proud of this design, both because it had some supposed advantages, and because it allowed the V8 to fit in the Exploder (I call the SUV an Exploder because that's what my Ford engineer friends called it).

Anyway, when the first engine showed up on a pallet with this manifold attached, I just about fell down laughing. Despite the horrible shape, though, the welds are consistent from part to part, and the parts themselves seem of OK quality. Still, the design - ugh.

they are designed to fit into the chassis and carry the exhaust away from the engine and be quiet while doing it. it is kind of funny that Ford would cripple the best flowing Windsor style cast iron heads that they ever put on a small block V8 with the crappiest looking exhaust manifolds they ever put on a small block..

I think they are just using a random photo for all their exhaust manifolds, since that obviously WON'T fit a 3.0l ranger. edit Just checked, and they do in fact have that photo for all their exhaust manifolds. I'm pretty sure that is a factory 1996-1998 V8 explorer manifold.

Yep, '96-'98 explorer. Here's a pair of them, hotlinked of course.

You beat me to it. That is a header for a 90s explorer on the drivers side for the 302. I know because I have it and am using it on my 351 pinto running backwards to clear my fender well. There were also tubular style, but those cracked far too easily.
