Since it was alluded to over in the classifieds I promised Angry (of the Corvair variety) I'd start a thread with some thoughts and ideas on where Wartburg 2.0 is headed.

To start with I gave into the temptaion and purchased these from Greg today. He made me a very nice deal just so he could see them on the Wartburg so I guess that's what I'll have to do.

So....what does Wartburg 2.0 consist of...aside from me forgoing whatever remained of my sanity?

Gonna need a bit more oomph to turn those meats, currently trying to firm up that part of the equation but it will stick to the same formula, just a little forced induction added in for fun.

Suspension is going to get a rework, possibly with air on all 4 corners. Definitely with sway bars.

I guess I may just have to flare the hell out of the old girl to make these fit too. And tub the inners as well in the rear.

While I have the body tools out some frenched headlights and a general reworking of the front facia, with 2 hellas built into the grill.

Still determined to add a 3 fold ragtop roof. And a finished interior is being planned. I have a nice set of Volvo seats that were donated but Im still on the hunt for late model caddilac seats with the integrated 3 point belts.

Eventually she will probably need a transmission and axle upgrade to keep up with the motor but I'll play that one by ear for now.

Some slightly crazier ideas I'm kicking around. 2 door conversion. Oddly this is one of the few things on the car I wouldnt have to make up on my own as some crazy guys over in europe have done the 4 door to 2 door conversion already.

This isnt going to be a 6 month sprint build like before, plan on a few years till it sees the light of day.

I take it this means it won't be at the challenge?

Keep us posted.

The challenge this year was it's one showing. It did everything I wanted it to do in that respect so now I want to do it "my way" without the budget restrictions. It will still be a budget oriented build but I want to do away with some of the compromises (no swaybars) that were made in our Trifecta run.

With any luck I'll still bring it down for exhibition when its done along with whatever we cook up next.

I am ever so glad you bought those wheels before I figured out how to get them shipped to MN. I had NO use for them, and I honestly thought about keeping them in the hatch of my ms3 to make the local volkswagen kids jealous.

You and I will be cornering the market on "how to" flare threads soon. You've got a nice head start though.

This excites me even more than Wartburg 1.0

You mean I've got to wait years to see how those tires fit? Argh!

Sadly yes. I'm really on a build hiatus this year to catch up on all the housing projects I let slide during the first build (seriously my wife finally hired a kid to mow our lawn because even that wasnt getting done)

So I have a year of planning and parts gathering ahead.

Hopefully this summer I can take one or 2 days and get some helpers to pull the body off again so I can attack it from the ground up. Lots of things need to change under the skin before the body work starts.

Let me know. I'm not too far away from you (closer than Chris) and would really like to see this car in person in "trifecta" set-up.

Just a little update. No real progress as this is a parts procurement and planning year but much thanks to our own SVReX Wartburg 2.0 will indeed be a 2.0. WRX 2.0 Turbo that is.

Just a little added oomph (about 100 extra hp if anyones counting)

WRX powered? This is the FFR new car effort, right?

What trans?

FFR Wartburg....that would be funny :)

Still going to use the VW transaxle we have in it now until it blows up. CV joints will probably suffer first so I may upgrade everything to the 930 CVs. If the trans cant handle it then I'll look at a VW bus unit, or if I suddenly inherit lots of money a custom built Mendolo or a Porsche transaxle.

Gawd those things are huge!! That much meat and that much HP, you might as well go ahead and plan the trans axle replacement now. I don't see the bug unit lasting long. Something is going to fail into very small pieces.

I suspect the CV Joints will snap like twigs. I have my eyes out for a deal on a porsche box....but those are few and far between.

A Wartbaru. Any reason you can't use the Scooby 'box? Already (allegedly) able to handle the HP, more easily available than the 915.
