I grew up in the back of a z31, with buckets that deep, who needs car seats?

As stated above, they were really only useful for groceries or children under 10 without a carseat. I think that the rear seats were an option on a couple of the generations here in the states, but I am not 100% certain.
Which makes sense since they were copied from the 924/944 which were all 2+2’s. At least with the FD they did their own styling. The FB/FC were very close to the 924/944 in styling and form.
The FC was far closer to the 928 than the 924/944.
The SA/FB were miniature C3 Corvettes with the Hot Wheels wheelwells shaved smooth. The roofline is near identical.
'78 Corvette:
'78 RX-7:
Same conical windshield, same downward slope at the top of the door, same trapezoidal B-pillar (924/944 had side windows and no B-pillars!), same rear glass shape (albeit 3 piece with the RX-7 vs. 1 piece on the C3), same narrowing of the rear glass towards the back of the car to leave a widening horizontal "shelf" at the beltline...
If you want interesting, you could get a "targa band" for the RX-7 that accentuated the similarity to the hoop-like C3 B-pillar/roof treatment.
I think you are reaching a bit there.

weren't the FDs something like 250hp?
It's kind of like how BMW never made an M3 with more than four cylinders, Porsche never made any watercooled cars, Pontiac never made any GTOs with anything but three 2 barrel carbs, Mazda never made any Miatas with anything but 1.6l engines, etc.
Thread title is irritating. Should be "Isn't the RX-7 a two-seater?"
The answer of course is yes, but it was available in at least some markets as a "2+2". How a human of any size would fit back there is a matter for debate.
1st gens make 105 HP with the 12A engine, except the GSL-SE (84-85) which makes 135 with the 13B.
2nd gens (S4) debuted in '86 with 146 HP, 182 HP for the Turbo II model.
The S5 (89-91) refined the 13B and upped HP to 160, 200 for the Turbo II.
Third gen FD (93-95 in the US) available only with a twin sequential turbo system, and makes 255 HP.
