Any tips for do-it-yourself spraying water-borne paint?

I can't think of any personally, but I DO remember an article in a recent (<3 months) article in Hot Rod or Car Craft that was talking about the new water-bourne paints and primers and good application techniques.

I think most of the major manufacturers do. I've been told the peeling white paint that Mazda carefully developed in the early 90's was part of a switch to water-based paint. Dunno if it's true though.

OEM production line paints have been mostly water based for years.

That is different than the standards for the repair industry. That is not waterborne, but it is in the process of switching. California has effectively forced it by very low VOC standards. The central east coast will be switching within a very few years. As in apparently by 2011.

The only tip I can provide (never done one) is even though it sounds nice and environmentally friendly, the clearcoat still has to be solvent based, so you'll still need the same precautions.
