I'm considering purchasing a really used up legends car as an autocross project. It will need a complete disassembly and inspection and would likely get the frame repainted and eventual new body work. It has pretty much everything except the engine and the front fenders. I've searched and found all the usual sites but couldn't find anything on swapping a water cooled engine of some other make.

Anybody have any information, links or whatever for me? Greatly appreciated.

Also wondering if there are any other bodys available besides the obvious legends ones.

Just throwing this out there.....Suzuki V-4, 1400 from an old Cavalcade or an old 4 from an early Goldwing. Both are relatively cheap and plentiful, and should run like stink, even in stock tune. As a plus, both were shaft drive.

Are the legends cars shaft drive or chain drive?

VMax, don't want to do second gear. Same with an FJ1200. I got REAL good at both.

ZRX 1200 Kawasaki is the ticket. Perhaps a ZX14.

Thanks for the quick response guys. I like the idea of the V4 engine but a 4 cylinder will be much easier to install with the driveshaft being offset to the right side of the chassis. I've got a local store that sells wrecked motorcycles on ebay. I could get one of those and reuse many of the parts. I'm going to check them out next week and take my camera and a tape measure.

get a Yamaha R1 engine. Really cheap, fast, and last forever. a couple guys at Summit Point race Baby Grands with R1's in them. They are crazy fast. I can get their info if you want it.

Oohh! That's like a candy store. Willing to share a link/name for them? Someday, I want to build one of these:

I'll find out their ebay store name for you. They are located in Oxford Alabama and I believe they go by Cycle Sports

Any consideration to running it in legal legends form? There are buckets of them around, with more buckets of places to race them, either circle track or roadrace. I have not raced one, but every time I watch them run here, I get the itch and start checking ebay.

I went on a test drive of a legends car once, it was $50 bucks well spent, I was having so much fun they had to send the wrecker out to get me to notice that they were motioning me back to the pits.

No interst in LTO(I don't do nascrap) on dirt or asphault. Its just an opportunity to purchase one at a good price and have some fun rebuilding it. Then have some fun autocrossing it and figuring out the setup requirements. Far off plans might be to have a slow AMod car.

Water cooled 2002 and up GSXR fit. A club i helped start uses 2002-2003 600cc stock motors. There are several guys using them in converted old legends cars.
Dobt you'll get any help form them...Politics drove me back to the big motor group...and hauling 210 miles each way to the track instead of touring within 75 miles of home...

I saw a post on www.dwarfcarracing.com was that yours? I didn't reply as it was allready covered by another poster.

After you've built that, you'll also need to buy these: http://www.robertopiecollection.com/Application/Products/plan2GB.asp?scpl2=PEDC-HGOG-01

I"ve found out something about the car. It's not a legends car. I believe it was originally built in Phoenix, AZ by the dwarf car company. Most likely had a Suzuki engine. Depending on the year it could have been one of the older engines that had air/oil cooling. I'm in touch with the company to see if there are any identifying numbers or features of their car to help me verify what it is. Looks like a 34 Ford Coupe body. Not your normal visiter to an autocross.

The current owners finally put a price on the car and its in my ball park. I'm getting excited about this.

Pics fridayish.
