So I went to see my car over the weekend, and sure enough, one of the windows leaks. More specifically, the driver's side rear vent window. I have a possible course of action - put a small piece of black duct tape on the backside of the seal, then use epoxy to close up the split. What would GRM do? Keep in mind that this is a $1000 car, not a $100,000 show princess. I just want the fix to be cheap, and work.

Rock auto has universal window weather stripping. You might find something there. (On the top there is the Universal Tab in the catalog.)
What make/model/year car are we talking about?

I'd just slather on some of this. Skip the tape. stays pliable for a long time.

Universal won't fit. It's a moulded seal to keep water out, and to keep the vent window in place.

Not to beat a dead horse, but did you look at RockAuto? They have lots of different cross sectional shapes and you can use stuff like the 3M shown above to make corners. Or was it Shoe Goo to make the corners?

It's weird, because it's twisted from horizontal to near vertical, and flares out while doing so. To this day, I have never seen a seal like it.
I looked at my favorite weatherstrip supplier website, but they don't appear to have the part you need: https://www.metrommp.com/?f=product_list_for_vehicle&VehicleYear=1984&Make=OLDSMOBILE&Model=CUTLASS%20SUPREME
I've seen people use the 3M product above to fix splits in weatherstrip - cover the surface where the weatherstrip presses against with Saran Wrap or similar, put the adhesive in the split, and then close the window. The Saran Wrap keeps it from permanently gluing your window closed.

Have you tried looking to see if any of the seals from pickups may be adapted?
Pickups kept the vent windows longer than cars, so there may be better availability.
Try LMC to check for pickup vent seals.

Unfortunately, they're the special rear vent windows, because GM engineered the main rear windows to be fixed. Great tip, though!
Black RTV? Though the 3M goop suggested is probably a polyurethane formulation and better suited to the job.
i used some really sticky black house window sealant to glue the t-tops on my 86 Camaro in place to get rid of some really bad leaks... as a bonus, it also cut down on all the wind noise..

I've been thinking of going for black RTV. It's a solid and cost-effective option.
