The Sentra's water temperature started behaving strangely last night, and its still doing it today. After an extended trip on the highway, the water temp is bouncing up and down like a yo-yo, from right up near the H and back down in just a minute or so. Definetly speed dependent, since it goes right back down to normal temps as soon as i steady out at 40 or more. But I dont think the actual temp can change that rapidly. Sender gone bad, or maybe a sticking thermostat?

The speed dependent part makes me think it really is getting hot.

There was no bubbling or steam when I looked under the hood.

If it cools down with increased road speed it sounds like the cooling fan is inop.

Ok, one mystery solved, another yet to be. Even though the overflow tank was at normal level, the water in the radiator was low, at least 2 quarts down. So the new mystery is, where is the water going now, especially since the radiator was just replaced a couple of months ago? Time to borrow the leakdown tester again.

PS The radiator fans are working.

Bad radiator cap? Check overflow hose too.
