2 charge coolers and one heat exchanger. Just plumb in series  as in pump - cooler 1 - cooler 2 - heat exchanger?

If you plumb them in series the second intercooler will run much hotter than the first, you should plumb the two intercoolers in parallel.

If you want better cooling power you can put the intercoolers on their own separate water cooling system, although that's heavier and more expensive.

I figured this may be the case and was thinking about tapping two extra fittings into the heat exchanger and running the two pumps parallel from the one massive heat exchanger. 

I was told that the water may move fast enough through the system that there will be only a slight difference from the first to the second and it should be ok if the compounded boost cooler is first in line as it will need the most cooling.

You can use two wye fittings on either side of the coolers (pump -< coolers >- heat exchanger -> return). But I don't know if that would be better than just a simple loop (in series).

Maybe a pump on both legs of the Y??

A pump on both legs of the Y could work, but you could get away with one pump if it's powerful enough.

One cooler will be smaller so it maybe the path of least resistance and impede the flow to the other if using one pump.. argh

Ah I didn't realize they were different sizes. In that case two pumps on the legs of the Y is the best way to go.

I thought this was for a V engine maybe with one cooler for each bank. But if they're different sizes, if you can plumb it so that the coldest coolant hits the hottest charge cooler first, I would do that and connect it all with one hose in series, but again I don't know if it matters really. Just try to keep a large enough I.D. on all the hoses and fittings especially the longer they are.

I wouldn't know where to begin trying to size the cooling properly, but if it's going to be a closed system with it's own radiator then I'm not sure there's much to gain by adding a second pump. If you had a tank filled with ice water then sure a second setup in parallel would add cooling capacity, but with a closed liquid to air, I think in series might be fine.

Yeah the smaller of the two will be the first in line which is actually mounted in the fender area. The larger second intercooler will be handling the hotter compounded boost..
