So I know this isn't the correct forum but hoping one of y'all knows powersports equipment better than I.

I've got a 2022 SeaDoo Spark 3UP. I use it about once a month during the season. Last month I had my kids up at my house, took it out to an island. We went to go start it back up and it died right away and then gave me a "Reading Key" message. Luckily this amazing family that was on vacation renting a pontoon boat towed us back to the marina.

I test the voltage on the battery and I'm getting 6 volts. Put the battery conditioner on it, get it charged back up, it's reading 12.5 and try to start it back up. I'm still getting the "reading key" message.

I can't find much on the SeaDoo forums regarding this issue other than try to get the key reprogrammed; however, I'm not sure how the key would just stop being recognized. The last time it started, it ran for a minute, then died, and then that message popped up after trying to start again.

Some people recommended putting a new battery in and replacing the 30A relay in the fuse box. I've got those things ordered and next on my list.

Luckily I've got a coworker lined up to buy this thing once it's fixed.

They use a key called a DESS key (Digitally Encoded Security System), and the mount is called the DESS post. These posts are known for going bad, and then the key can't be read.

They are easy to replace, but new ones have to be reprogrammed by a dealer.

Try cleaning both the key and the post well.

Also, check your engine ground. The cables are undersized, and corrode (especially if exposed to salt water). You can check it with a jumper from the battery to the engine block. If that solves it, add a 2nd ground wire.

Thanks for the recommendations. What would you recommend cleaning the key and post with?

My friend had the same problem on his, after trying in vain to troubleshoot he took it to the dealer who fixed it in less than an hour and for under $100.
