When I first got the Scion xB in '08 it was a thing to wave at fellow enthusiasts (not so much 55 year old lady with groceries). I know Corvette owners did, or do. And driving the WRX & 2.5RS before, I get the wave from fellow Subie enthusiasts.

Motorcycles are obvious. Any other sub group of cars where you feel like waving just because he's lucky enough to like the same kind of car?

I can't tell you about the trend in general, but my DD'04 Civic has a somewhat unusual package and I get waves from drivers who sport the same.

Miata owners, typically do.

I've noticed FoST and FiST owners nod when they see me in my RS, so I've begun to return the favor.

Miata definitely.

I enjoy popping up my headlights at people in NBs and up who can't.

Anytime I see something strange or classic or both, I generally wave a thumbs up at them, sometimes they're confused, sometimes they wave back.

Miata guys have been waving forever.

Around here, you give the steering wheel finger acknowledgement to all other vehicles. Farm country.

In reply to Stefan: I drive a Focus ST and about 2/3 of other FoST drivers wave at me. I have not noticed any FiST or FoRS drivers returning the wave.

Back when I had my ACVW Super Beetle, I would would get waves from other Bug drivers. I don't recollect it ever happening in the MPV.

It doesn't work to well with minivans, the soccer moms just think you're a creep.

That's exactly how I read it the first time too, and I was thinking it may be slightly odd to walk through the halls of a model car show waving at every single person.

I wave at anyone driving a cool old car, as there aren't many B series trucks running around here. Most people just look confused.

I bought a '01 Montero just recently, Gen3s. This Sunday on the expressway I saw a Gen2 Montero coming up behind me. I was in the slow lane, he in the fast lane. He stayed on my hip for a little while. I figure he was scoping out the truck. As he passed, we both waved!

Not exactly common vehicles.

I'd wave at any other Q45s I see on the road but I have yet to encounter one.

Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria.

That or a WRX owner was driving his friend's Evo while his engine was getting rebuilt.

I have waved at people in RX-7s while forgetting that I was driving a completely different car. I will never forget the ultra-confused look I got from an FD driver as I waved at him from my Golf. (Really should put rotor stickers on all my other cars)

Meanwhile, in the RX-7, this year, I have been waved at by people in 3rd-gen Supras (Different ones, separate occasions! Didn't know there were that many left), people on sportbikes, people in Miatas, a guy in a 944, and one gentleman in an Exige. I have never been waved at in any of my prior RX-7s before to the best of my knowledge.

Hmmmm, I could try waving at people driving the same car I have. But I think my arm would fall off and my window would never be up. My daily driver is a 2012 Honda CRV. I'd say about 10% of the parking lot at work is 2012 - 16 Honda CRVs.

Back in my grease car days when I was driving a 85 Mercedes 300D, there seemed to be a lot more of them around, and I was always getting waves from them and waving back.

I don't think I got any waves in the 16 years I drove my Neon.

I don't drive a Jeep, but I do see them waving to each other very often.

I had an Evo owner nod at me in the FoRS, also confused the hell out of me.

Had a Subaru owner walk over and talk about the RS. He wasn't driving either of his WRX's at the time, they were broken. I wished him luck and thanked him for chatting.

Maybe it's just other Turbo AWD sedans/hatchback owners that knowingly nod or wave at each other?

Used to be CJ's in the 90's. Because in the 90's and beyond, CJ's we're getting rare.

Now Wrangler drivers do it but to me it doesn't make sense because Wranglers make up about 50% of the cars on the road in Mass.

Subaru guys generally do it - at least GC's/WRX's/STI's, usually ones that aren't stock (nor is mine)

I get waved at in the e30 rally car, but it is NEVER by other BMW owners lol. In fact, I think they move over a lane to avoid even getting near me :) On the way home from east coast championships (45 minute drive) I had 6 ot 7 people either roll down their window and ask/say something or give a thumbs up or wave.

Oddly enough, a dude in an offroaded-up 4Runner gave me a wave the other day while I was in the Sequoia....that was a first. Guess my ARB tarp makes him think I wheel it

It's rare that we don't get a wave in SWMBO's JK Wrangler from fellow Wrangler drivers. I get an occasional wave or nod in my XJ from other Jeeps, usually from another lifted Cherokee (not cool enough for Wrangler drivers I guess.) Got an occasional nod in the Camaro from other fbody guys, but that was only a handful of times at best.

Got lots of waves from fellow Bimmer drivers in my e36, but usually only one finger. Must be a BMW thing

Driving my FD around I get a lot of comments from other folks at traffic lights and the like. Far more than any other car I've owned -- well, except for the Locost. :)
