I'll wave back but only initiate the handful of times a year I spot another Evo driver.
Cool enough cars get the ol' thumbs up though.

Some Mustang drivers still wave, although it's usually only within a body style (i.e. fox body, New Edge, S197, etc.).
I'll wave back, but this place is too stiff with Minis to do it first (not sure where the folks I'm waving back to get the energy).
It's rare to even go a day without seeing another red-with-white-roof-and-bonnet-stripes Mini (though I wouldn't be surprised to find out it's one of the most common schemes).
EDIT: And of course my cars that are rare enough to filter more are too interesting to run right now. And nobody waves back at the creepy windowless van shedding chunks of paint. Other creepy windowless van drivers like their space.

Didn't know there were that many left), people on sportbikes, people in Miatas, a guy in a 944, and one gentleman in an Exige. I have never been waved at in any of my prior RX-7s before to the best of my knowledge.Driving my FD around I get a lot of comments from other folks at traffic lights and the like. Far more than any other car I've owned -- well, except for the Locost. :)
That's the weird thing. It is decidedly not an FD. (Last post on page. Someone found this pic on Facebook that some random guy took) It's faded, it's dented from deerstrikes and whatever accident the PO got into that caved in the whole left side of the car, it's covered with ugly stickers, half the bumper's missing, and the tire/wheel choice is more or less "stuff I grabbed out of the trash pile at work". It's not something to wave at, it's something to avoid eye contact with.
i get a wave or the nod from alot of people when i drive the wagon. Apparently just having an old car makes people want to wave.
I got a wave from a guy in a nice WRX while I was driving my clapped out Civic. That amused me.
When I had the BMWs I'd sometimes get a wave or nod from other E36 drivers and then there was the kid who cut the exhaust off his 325i and always wanted to race me
I've given XC70 waves a few times, but none have elicited a response. Jeep waves were kinda fun for a while back when I had my wrangler. Miata waves are fairly common. When I drive the Mini, people wave, point, thumbs up etc. Subie folks and Evos pretty much always eaved when I had the WRX.
All MINI owners wave. It's a requirement of ownership.
Everywhere you drive a MINI is like a big beach party.
I get no acknowledgement from the other diesel bros in my diesel truck. I suspect it might be because my diesel bro truck looks like an old man's farm truck. I offer very little in return.
Pretty sure every other 5th gen Malibu owner would be confused by my waves.
I usually compliment people that bring cool things to the parts house.
For those of us with flip ups, we don't have to wave. Just pull the headlight stalk back, those beautiful, unique, dying breed headlights purr off that eccentric electric motor sound reminiscent of the 80's. The rectangular headlights give that wink like a drunk attractive girl across the bar. The oncoming cars all gawk in amazement, nearly forgetting about Facebook. But the guy 2 cars back? Well he just did the same thing. In a moment it's all over, and you feel like you just had cocaine fueled sex.
Flip up headlights, the "wave" of the future.
I think new cars, old cars, and enthusiest cars get the most waves. My Miata still gets waves. My Titan got a lot of waves when it was new. My Galant VR4 goes unnoticed most of the time, but people go crazy when they recognize what it is. I've had a few conversations while sitting at stop lights.
As said before, Miata guys are big on it. I actually get a little irritated when I see a fellow Miata driver who doesn't wave back (It tends to be most NCs). Back when I had my old EA82 Loyale, WRX guys used to wave at me all the times.
I was surprised to find out when driving my short bus around town that other people driving short buses actually waved.
Since we own an xB, a MINI and a Miata we do a lot of waving. I need to get my A2 GTI roadworthy and see if the local VW crowd is into waving.
Pretty much every corvette i see waves, so i wave back except to c4s.
Dont get me wrong i love c4s, but most people think they are trash, so i just shake my head at the owners when they wave, so i can see the look of dishist on there face, thsy look really upset when you do it

That was the case when the R50/53 cars were new. Lots of waves... except in Princeton, NJ - where a lot of people bought the car because it was small, cute and cheap, but didn't buy into the culture. From the day she bought her MCS in 2003, my ex- rarely got waves. I would get some waves driving the '07 'Vert, but they were rare. Hell - I rarely got waves from other MINI drivers when I was driving the classic Mini. Haven't gotten a single wave when driving the latest '06 MCS.
When I'm driving the Triumphs, I'll wave at other LBC's (obviously) and other old cars well, regardless of make. I'll get a return wave a little more than half the time.

VW guys are more into the vape salute

Exactly, like I said, Boost Buggy Bros
I did get a wave in the xB a few months ago from another older gentleman in an xB easily in his 60s. Guess he figured another old guy in an xB was something.
When I used to drive the conquest people would ask if it was a supra or mustang. Or they'd say how they haven't seen one in 20 years lol.
The galant vr4 only got love from dsm and evo owners.
The XJR gets nods from old men.

If I wave at a Miata, it's probably because it's a coworker We own most of the ones in town.
My recent adventures in driving a WRX STi have netted me quite a few waves, nods, sneers, exhaust reving, etc. from various other Subaru dude-bros.
The highlight was once I was grabbing some BBQ stuff with my wife at a local grocery store and some Subaru guys were hanging out in the corner of the parking lot. As I left, they jumped in their cars and followed me for a bit. Either a friendly impromptu cruise, or a bunch of chumps looking to commandeer some parts.
