I'd love to see proof. fuelmileage.gov doesn't have the 2012 WRX up yet, but I imagine the 2.5l turbo doesn't gear nearly what its 2.0l sister does. Still, 36mpg out of a AWD car is impressive.

The 2012 wrx is mechanically (and tuned) the same as my 2009, so I don't see how the fuel economy would be any different.

My "typical" tank (mix of suburban, bumper-to-bumper, and highway) is 22-23mpg. On long road trips doing 70-80mph I've gotten around 26 or 27. I've never gotten near 30.

Oh, and I run 235/45/17 takeoffs from an '11 wrx (as opposed to my 225/45/17 stockers) so that would negate any difference in factory mileage .

Also I would note that my 09 is more aerodynamic than the '10+ cars with the STi fenders and larger air dam.

Subaru says 19/25 for the WRX. Not bad considering the performance. I was really surprised that the new Impreza 2.0 gets 27/36. That is impressive given the AWD drivetrain, as said before.

I'm interested in another WRX- very interested. Problem is, I can't see over the horizon for what 2013 is going to bring. Rumors are that it will have similar power with better efficiency from a smaller engine. I have the 2.0 in my '02 and can see how another .5L would give you that torque that is missing at the low end.
