Unfortunately looks like I won't be making it... it's doubtful I'll have even gotten the Elky running by that point much less all of the work that would be needed before it could be remotely competitive (or even fun) at the Challenge. And even if it WERE done, my finances are tight enough that the trip would likely be unwise- which means going down to spectate is pretty much out too.

I should have my entry in and hotel booked by this weekend.

Put me down as another one intending to drive 500+ miles to/from the event in their DD-level Challenge vehicle (AC, cruise, radio, etc.). Might not even be in the top half, but that's still an accomplishment, right?

Very excited to do my first Challenge, the car this year is very tame, just seeing what it's all about. I hope to be back next year with a much faster entry.

will drive up to spectate on Sunday. Trying to decide whether or not to trailer an unfinished car up (again) to play show and tell. I'm really uncertain if
a) the powers that be consider show and tell of unfinished projects to be a distraction/annoyance
b) there's room for the bigger trailer
c) it is worth the effort

In reply to JoeyM:

There really isn't much going on Sunday except people bugging out. With the new schedule all the racing is happening Friday with Saturday being the Concours, etc. followed by the banquet that night. The real day to come would be Friday but if you want to show the car I'm guessing there will be ample room/time on Saturday. There is plenty of room at the racetrack for trailer parking and the hotel has an overflow lot with plenty of trailer parking space.

Whoa....thanks for the heads up. Just checked the schedule and you're right. For some reason I thought the activity had been switched from Fri-Sat to Sat-Sunday.

I was up last year (have been for the last several years. Will have to re-think stuff. It's worth taking a day off to be there on Friday if I have a car to run.....if not...we'll see.

Again, I appreciate the heads up.

Awesome!! Can't wait to see the Jeep tearing it up again.

Get some rear brake in it so you can build boost on the line for the drags! That thing easily had 3-4 tenths in it that were lost just in the first 60 feet because I couldn't build boost at the line without spinning the slicks before I let off the brake. That's why my 60 foots were better when it was launching in 2nd.

Is your turbo firmly bolted on this time?

This will be year number 7 for our team... and this is the meanest car we have ever built. It's simply a 5.0 Mustang with no motor mods (except for a small shot of Nitrous). Men grow chest hair in it's proximity. Elderly people and small children require a doctor's note. And the paint and body work make Women........ throw up a little in their mouths. The Hotel is very nice. Thanks for the reminder, I completely forgot to put it on the list. Oh, I built two valve cover racers, but they need fine tuning. Since there is no Friday night at the hotel, should I still bring them?

Yes and yes. We will email confirmation when we receive your forms. And valve cover racing is happening Saturday in the pavilion during the car show and general merriment there. So please do bring yours!

Really?!! All those boosts and 400 wheel horsepowers and F2Ts and you're hoping for 13's? Are you planning on taking a nap at the thousand foot mark?

My junk went 13.20 stuck in second gear!

Those hood vents I gave you have to be good for at least 11s if not 10s.

It will be.

But i would have broken 13s last year with the turbo falling off if i had time for 2 more passes anyways.

Fun fact: I trapped as high as Dave did in the Speed Race MR2... with my turbo falling off.

Nah see.... i'm planning on just doing what happened last year, but more so.

Let that beautiful blue EF hatch take me through the 1/8 mile, then violate it with a vengeance on the big end.

Think more "FWD Supra" and less "Diesel truck."

Except... sounds like a diesel, so i've got nothin'.

I'll make it one of these years when I am not spending all of my monies on vehicular ADD.

When that happens, I have none berkeleys to give about the drag or show portion, I'm in it for autox glory.

I'd suggest you cheer for someone that has a chance of breaking Top 10. This car will always be bottom 10 in the concours, which means it's pretty much boned overall. I think you COULD come close to winning with one of these, if not winning overall, but you'd have to build it in a completely different direction than i did.

I didn't build mine to win the Challenge, i built mine to be an entertaining and dirty cheap daily driver, that happens to be Challenge legal.

I'm there for the party.

And to eat hondas and E36 M3 axles on the drag strip.
