I'm planning on being there. I will pass this community's condolences to the family.
The memorial service will be at St. Timothy's Anglican Church at 2pm on Saturday. The address is 12 Byas Ln, Swannanoa, NC 28778. The Father said that flowers were welcome and could be delivered to the church but was not aware of any other requested donation in lieu of flowers.

I just thought I would share that my wife, our 6 week old son and I made it out to the Funeral today. It as standing room only and a beautiful service. Several people spoke and captured Walter as we all knew and loved him. I am going to go out on a limb and say it was trucke who stood and read a selection of quotes from this thread. It was a wonderful tribute. I am sorry I didn't get a chance to stick around and talk to others but baby needed to get home.
Thanks for going. The wife and I wished we could have gone. We had met Walter a couple times and we're hoping to see him again next year.
Glad you were there, and that the service was SRO, as is only appropriate for someone like Walter. I think a lot of us wanted to be there--I sent an arrangement to represent all of us who couldn't make it.

Sorry to hear, I always looked forward to reading his insight on various topics on the forum.
Condolences to his family.
Thanks LopRacer. Sorry you could not stick around for us to meet.
It was Mike Burke, one of Walter's good friends, who shared a bunch of stories about him. He had us all laughing and crying.
I did share a couple of stores about when Walter first started autocrossing. I picked out several posts from this thread that I was able to share. His Mom, family, and church members were very appreciative! It conveyed the message that Walter touched more people than just the local community. It was your kind words bringing them the heartfelt message.
There was standing room only!

Thank you for doing that--got an email this morning from a non-forum member who was there and wanted to mention that this was done (and that it did make it clear Walter touched lots of people). I was wondering who it was.
