Win ads used to be such a big part of our sport.
Just googling “Richard Petty win ads” brought back a slew of vintage magazine ads from major companies like STP, Champion, Ford, Plymouth and Pure Oil.
These firms saw that winning on Sunday sold on Monday.
Among today’s press releases received here at GRM: Tom O’Gorman Earns Sixth National …

My favorite WIN ad of all time .
I do remember the Chevrolet and Ford win ads in the USA Today during the 1990s after they scored a NASCAR Cup race victory. I might have saved a few of those.
Not an ad, but my dad used to say "well, Jackie Stewart drives a Ford."
Kid-me thought "that's cool!"
Older-me realized the joke he made comparing the Ford Cosworth DFV motors in the Tyrrell F1 cars ... and the 200ci straight six motor in whatever family rust-box we had at the time.
Why stop at a print ad when you can film a full 30 second TV spot?

I'm pretty sure Porsche has done it the best over the years.
Recently I've come to realize just how much racing advertising influenced my purchasing in the 60s-70s-80s. I was a Shell gas, Champion Spark Plug, Kendall Oil, Goodyear Tire, etc. bigot.

Now there's some nostalgia!
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :I still have mine!
In reply to Appleseed :
I used to have that poster on my wall.
Not an OEM but TEO and Bicknell post winners ads on Facebook
What is a "win ad?"
I just don't think I've ever heard that term before.
In reply to z31maniac :
All over the car magazines.
Posting more of what has already been posted with no explanation doesn't really help.
That just looks like a normal car/product ad to me?
In reply to z31maniac :
It would be an ad placed with a recent event's winner. An example would be when Dale Earnhardt or Jeff Gordon won a race the next day papers all over the country would have Chevy ads placed congratulating them for winning. Car and part manufacturers ran them regularly. Here's one from goodyear when they beat John Greenwood's BFG sponsored cars
Edit: they would be tied to bery recent events and not a general ad campaign.
In reply to Wally (Forum Supporter) :
Gotcha, thanks!
In one of the first issues of GRM that I ever bought, there was an article about the Runoffs or some other championship, and there was a win ad that featured some of the same photos as the magazine article.
I remember a pickup (Nissan Hardbody?) locking a front wheel on corner entry, smoke billowing from the tire...
Maybe it wasn't promoting Hoosier tires or some other product, but the timeliness of the ad really struck me.
(Remember back when one could cheaply buy a new 4 cylinder mini truck with 2wd/manual transmission from practically any manufacturer, and some people realized that they'd make a good racing class?)
Mercedes did a lot of F1-related ads a few years back.
Also, there's this current campaign. They didn't hire him for his face or on-camera presence :)
