what's a "Great" versus "Good" versus "Average" 60 to 100 time these days?

Is that a common acceleration metric measured these days?

Anyways, flying start, my challenge car does it in just over 4 seconds on low boost.

I thought it was fairly common--I'd think valuable for assessing two lane passing ability. Certainly more relevant than the old "zero to 60" or "zero to 100 and back to zero" my old man used to refer to... I found a reference online for a 1990 ZR1 being able to do 60 to 100 in just under five seconds. That would appear to be the exception, obviously.

It's a number that magazine tests cite, but they cite it in top gear, which is not all that useful, IMHO. Note that cars tested with automatics will almost always win this one because they will downshift, whereas the cars with manuals get left in the higher gear.

I agree that 0-60 is also not a useful number, because it depends crucially on how good the launch is, and also on whether or not the car needs to shift to 3rd to hit 60.

Speed at the end of the 1/4 mile is the best of the common all-around comparison numbers, IMHO.

Where are these two lane roads that require 60-100 runs in order to safely complete a pass?...They sound exciting!

Edit: D'oh NM, my brain read "0-60"

In reply to Driven5:

I'd assume he means passing in a broken line, two lane road. That number would mean something to me there.

Third? Some cars don't have to shift to second.

I thought the OP was going to post a weird question between 60 and 100 times.

2 lane passing is usually a 50-70 top gear pull as tested by magazines.

It's been several years since I've been to 100mph.

that is one of the reasons the 318ti seems so slow to 60.. you run out of second just over 50mph

That's it right there. It's not perfect but it can give you a REAL good idea. If you drive a lot of cars (i have as a mechanic) just get in the habit of looking up their stock 1/4 mile trap speed and pretty soon you'll be able to get an idea of what the numbers mean in real life.
