The washer fluid in my 924s has been disappearing. I assumed it was the tank but due to its fitment in front of the wheel well seeing the leak was not possible so I removed it and tested it and it does not appear to be the problem. I now suspect that it has something to do with the weird washer pump plumbing. Porsche seems to have a recirculating system that bleeds fluid back to the tank (there are two lines running in to the tank). One is a pickup for the washer and the other appears to be connected in to the line that goes to the squirt-ers. Thus a portion of the fluid coming out of the pump actually returns to the tank.

I am wondering if there is an issue with the return line some how and it is syphoning the tank empty. I think I am going to have to take Porsches typical over engineering of a simple system and revers it so it is in line with something that the rest of the automotive market uses.

Anyone had this problem before?

Is it going dry just sitting or using more than you think it should?

This car has headlight sprayers too right? If those come on at the same time as the windshield nozzles maybe a hose came loose and is spraying full force instead of being regulated by the nozzle. If it doesnt have headlight sprayers then I have no idea.

rear window sprayer?

I had a problem with my Disco losing fluid. Seems that Rover used soft rubber lines to connect the pump to the hard plastic lines and they were rotting away.

My wife's car was the pump o-ring in the bottle itself. It would just trickle into the frame rail so I couldn't see any evidence of drippers but the bottle would be below the pump after 2 days.

That's a setup for running an overpowered pump and preventing it from causing an overpressure condition and/or sucking air.

Installed the new tank and the leak apears to be gone. I still am baffled as I set the old tank in the sink for an hour and nothing leaked out. I wonder if it is heat related or if there is somthing different about wiper fluid versus water.
