That looks expensive. We have some of those shelves, I don't trust them. Luckily for us, nothing sitting near them is too valuable.

Well that sucks.  Is that a C5? Thought for a split second it might be a 4th gen f body, in which case I would have had a hatch to give you for a get it the hell out of my garage price, but alas...

E36 M3 this also reminds me I have one of those shelves leaning precariously against the wall still after my garage reorganization a few months back. I should deal with that asap.

SON of a BITCH!  I love Nighthawks, too. I used to have a Hawk when I was a kid, and wanted to replace it with a Nighthawk 750. 

I think it's pretty important to have a shelf pretty close to the bottom of that setup, if you're gonna have any weight on it. It almost makes me glad I don't have a garage, cuz that's the kind of E36 M3 that would happen to me every other week. 

Ugh, that sucks.  Those legs aren't designed to *not* have the shelf supports installed.

I'm always knocking stuff over so I screw everything to the wall.  Yeah, that sucks, but the damage is pretty minimal considering what a gallon of paint could have done if opened.

I have overloaded metal shelves not even that good holding steel smalls and cutoffs right next to the rear quarter of the Mustang. Shelves definitely needs replaced w/ heavier units in the spring.

They're bungeed to the wall and a cabinet right now.

I have those exact shelves but I have them zip tied, one to the other up and down. I also have  the very bottom three back sides attached with the brackets. It’s fairly stable. 

What the hell hit the back window? There is nothing in the floor that looks like it would cause that damage. How flimsy is a vette?

Yep I'm an idiot. Not once, not twice, but three times over.

Idiocy #1 -  Building the shelving unit with no lower braces installed. I didn't put the front one on so I could roll my shop-vac under the last shelf, I don't know why I didn't put the side cross braces though, having those side braces would have prevented this.

Idiocy #2 - Not affixing the top of the shelf to the wall with some anchors

Idiocy #3 - Getting frustrated at a snagged extension cord and yanking on it. It was snagged because somehow it had completely looped around the front leg of the shelf. Rather than calmly go look to see why it was hung up, I got pissed, yanked on it hard, which caused the leg to bend back, sending the whole shelf, which was pretty top heavy into it's crashing decent.

At least I think I did something right, when it started to tip I tried to grab it and push it back but realized quickly it was done for. So I just got he hell out of the way. Broken glass is easier to fix than broken bones.

Judging from the angles here it was the 5 gallon steel air-tank I had on the top shelf. Heavy steel + tempered glass = $$$. At least the quarter panel won't be damaged since it's plastic.

EDIT: Okay whats the deal with the Grey Accord? I'm out of the loop.

Both of E&I's Yukon Denalis got totaled by grey Accords within a very short time...

Edit: Looks like the bike only got some paint splatter, but no major impact?

I can't say I have ever seen tempered  glass break like that without shattering into a million hard to pick up pieces. I am just hoping the damage is not as bad as it looks

Oh it's shattered into millions of little pieces. Thankfully it's all being held in place by the tint film. Will make it easy to clean up.

I have a ton of that type and I always put a shelf in at bottom level so that I don't have things resting on the possibly-flooded ground.

Never considered that the upright might buckle

This could easily turn JG's Not a top 10 into 11. 

I'm glad it didn't get you in the collapse too.

Maybe next year the magazine will have a contest for the biggest garage failures.
